General Discussion / Re: Spray Wax v. Paste Wax

I appreciate your comment, Konrad!  I have heard different people make casual comments about a wax they think works and a wax they think is no good, etc., but wanted to see something in print.  I think you (and the guy with the shop) have a good idea.  Thank you!

I've never used a spray wax on my classics, but it does look convenient.  What is your opinion, is spray was as good as paste wax?  Thank you!

Pictured is the broken flexible tubing and its location under the hood that I am trying to replace.

I meant to say I just want the blades for the wipers, not the arms.

NAPA gives several numbers for wiper blades and say they are "not-fitted, universal fit."  So, any of those will work?  They also say that 25056 isn't the right kit for my Manhattan.  Should I still consider ordering 25056 anyway?

How do I know if the kit I order has no rubber in it?  (Thanks for that tip, KF Library! Does your kit use neoprene or rubber, rdcorvair?

To all of you:  Thanks a million for your answers!

I'm looking for a few parts for my '52 Manhattan:

1. windshield wipers
2. carburetor kit
3. flexible tubing (the 15" x 5" piece on the driver's side)  Or, is it better to buy this at a hardware store?

Can any of you (with way more experience on Kaisers than I have) help me out?  Thank you!

It's been a long time since I reported what we have done to fix the problem with the starter.  I took it to Gen-Star in Glendale AZ.  They always seem to do a good job.  He went thru it & cleaned it up.  I put it back in the Manhattan and now it's running like a top, no chatter.  I think the car even looks pleased.  Thanks to all of you for the education on starters!

Here are the measurements of my paper filter.  The outside diameter of the metal cover of the paper filter is 4 3/8 inches.  The outside diameter of the paper filter is 3 7/8.  Has anyone used these?  Is there a disadvantage of using one of these filters in my '52 Manhattan?   I like it in my '51 Kaiser and I'm thinking of putting it in my '52 Manhattan.  Where can I buy one?  I looked and looked and couldn't find a number on it anywhere.  Thanks!

Thanks for your response, KFLibrary.  Attached are 4 photos which may help.  Just to be sure we're talking about the same thing, I call this a paper filter, is that the same term you use?  Or, were you thinking of some other kind of filter.  I searched and searched and could find no number on the filter.  I should have measured it ... I will tomorrow.

What are your thoughts now?  Anyone else have thoughts on this?  Is it a good filter for a '52 Kaiser?  Where can I buy one?

Thanks ...

My '52 Kaiser Manhattan has an oil bath air cleaner.  My '51 Kaiser Deluxe has a paper filter that sits on top of the carburetor.  I assume the oil bath cleaner on the '52 is stock and the paper filter was added later on the '51.  To me, the oil bath cleaner is too large & cumbersome and takes up too much room.  I like the simplicity of the paper filter.

My question:  I prefer the paper filter and want to put one on the '52.  Are there downsides to that idea?  If I were to do that, where can I buy one?  Thank you!

As a review, I had started this forum because of a noise problem with my '52 Manhattan.  For various reasons, I believe the problem is in the starter, but needed help on this forum to be sure we know the cause.

If you will go to the following link on youtube, we have posted a video to show you the car and the sound it makes upon start-up.  This is the loudest I've ever heard it.  It seems to be loudest if the car has not been started every 2-3 days and then trails off after about a minute.

I'd appreciate any thoughts ...

I sincerely appreciate the help from all of you.

I'm a little late getting back here.  I had a little surgical procedure done last week.  Nothing big, just wish someone would have told me to wear something better than a baseball cap with nothing covering my ears when I was a little boy driving those tractors with no umbrella or no cab.

Here are a few on the answers to questions regarding my '52 Manhattan.  I am working on cleaning up every connection I can find.  This starter was rebuilt just a year ago.
1. Attached are photos of the starter.
2. It's a stick shift.
3. Yes, both of my Kaisers run.
4. The ground cable is a flat braden, nearly an inch wide.

Other thoughts, at this point?  I will be back as I work on this further.  Thank you!

Thank you for your answer!

I'm still trying to get to the bottom of this starter situation.  I checked the tags, as suggested.  I have both a 1951 Kaiser Deluxe and the 1952 Kaiser Manhattan I referred to previously.  In checking the starter tags, they are both Delco-Remy and both have the same number - 1107087 - has anyone heard of that number?  Is it supposed to be in Kaisers like mine?

Can anyone shed some light on this?  Thank you!

Occasionally, my 1952 Manhattan makes a slight buzzing or clicking sound.  A guy with a good background in Kaisers said it's because this car has the wrong length of starter.  Is that possible?  Any help would be appreciated.

General Discussion / Re: Lead or not?
« on: August 28, 2017, 10:36:45 PM »
Thanks for your reply, Gordie.

A question:  if leaded gas doesn't help preserve rubber and gaskets, then why use it at all?  Are there other benefits?

The Desoto group hasn't approved my membership yet. But, I need some information now, not in a few weeks.  As another course of action, my first thought was to ask the Kaiser people, they'll know and they are so reliable.  Hope I have enough knowledge some day so I can help somebody like you'all do me.

General Discussion / Lead or not?
« on: August 28, 2017, 07:32:59 PM »
I bought a 1955 car a few days ago.  The previous owner says he has only used regular gasoline in it with no lead additive.  So, my question is this:  would you continue, as he has done, with no lead added?  Or, start using lead additive?  It has 67,000 miles.  Thanks!
