Kaiser Forum / lost keys
« on: August 15, 2018, 04:44:30 PM »
I some how managed to lose a set of keys for my 53 kaiser deluxe.  Not so easy to find a spare set around here.  Luckily an old key i have for a 51 ford worked in the ignition so at least i have been able to drive the old girl.  Any one have any suggestions on how to remedy this problem.  I dont really want to pop a lock out and take it to a locksmith but that may be the only option.  Just wondering if any one else had this problem and where i can get an original key blank.  Weird thing is a set of keys were missing out of a van in my yard as well so not sure if someone liked my keys more than me or if i hid them both very well and forgot the hiding place.

Hope that its a leaking gasket.  I Screwed up once and went for a drive with out putting antifreeze in the water in my flathead ford.Wouldnt be a big deal except i forgot about it and put my truck away for the winter.  You shoud see what -30 c does to an engine when it freezes. Cracked the block completely beyond repair.  Sad day really.  Guess ill yank the heads if I get a minute.  Im doing a frame off on my 51 Ford f1 and its taking a lot of my time.  One of these days something will go right I hope.  Thx for the info.

So started out with a noise in my rear hub on my 53 deluxe.  Cannot get the hub off. Had it off last year and now it is welded on. Actually broke my hub puller and did a number on the lug bolts. Gonna go rent the proper drum puller and beat the ever living crap out of it next. I re threaded the hub and nuts and now they have a lot of slop.  Looks like my tap and die set must be miss matched sizing  wise.  Gonna have to tap out to bigger size and try to find bigger bolts.  Not happy. So now I cant pull the drum to fix that dragging noise thats going on inside intill i re thread the holes.  I guess i can use some 1/2" treaded rod and nuts.   Gas gauge stopped working so tore it apart and  found the float had a hole in it.  Thx to whomever posted that on here cause i almost ordered a new sending unit but luckily thats all it was.  Epoxied and re installed. Works like a charm.  Tried to fire it back up and it was running awful.  cleaned the carb and after three tries got the float set right now its running good but smoking like fog machine.  Theres no antifreeze in the oil but now i noticed a leaky manifold and some oil.  Been a trying last couple days to say the least.
Looks like ill be pulling the engine sooner than later.  Had a rear seal leak any way but it was tolerable.  Getting frustrated to say the least since I was planning on selling her to a new kaiser lover and cant sell it like this since im not a dirtbag.  Can any one recommend a good gasket set and possible fix to the smoking issue before i go insane.
Thx.  I believe ive earned a cold one.

No worries,  You a flatlander too.  I dont think there is too many of us Kaiser owners up here.  Good to know im not alone.  I Had never seen one before I bought mine. I have a 53 Deluxe mostly original daily driver.  Gonna try to put it back to original condition over the next few years i hope.  Doesnt have too much work needed.  New paint  and a few cosmetic things.  I thought about selling it a while back but really dont think i want to.  Kind of a strange market in these parts for them as no one has any idea what they are except for a few old timers around here.  Sure turns heads though.  It Takes up valuable real estate in my garage that could be used for workin on my other projects but i became attached to it which isnt a bad thing.

Kaiser Forum / Re: temp gauge reads hot on '53 Kaiser

Sorry about my above post my daughter jumped on my keyboard as i was typing.  I have the have the same issue on my 53 deluxe. Runs on the hot side according to the gauge.  I messed with the timing a bit and and added an electronic ignition.  She runs cooler but still towards the high side of the gauge which leads me want to test the sending unit as others have mentioned above.
