Parts For Sale & Wanted / Willys parts in Okemos
« on: July 09, 2022, 10:17:49 AM »
Soliciting Willys part requests - I'll be at the national in Okemos week after next. It's a great opportunity to get large, heavy or fragile pieces not conducive to shipping. I plan to bring quite a bit, up to and including a 53 hardtop project car, but if there's something specific, just ask.

glennstin, did you ever confirm fitment on your car? I was trying to help a friend, and she got an A2201 trans mount, but doesn't fit her 55 Custom. Wondering if the 207407 Kaiser number given is a confirmed fit. Looks like they are available through Willow Run http://kfparts.com/store/product/transmission-mount-1951-1955-kaiser-w-standard-transmission/

See photo, top is 2201, bottom is original takeout

80333 is the same trans mount used on earlier Aeros with 161 and standard trans.
If it helps, I got a NORS part, interchange number 2201. Got it from Northwestern Auto Supply, which I understand is recently defunct, but looks like most parts houses carry an A2201

I'm thinking the whole assembly & joint are submerged with a topped up pan.
This is the important piece I missed just staring at the pickup design out of context - submerged, it doesn't matter if there's not a perfect seal at the pivot joint.

In any case, I found a Kaiser-Willys Blog reference to starving oil due to uncovering the pickup joint. I won't be offroading to encounter severe angles, but for peace of mind..
After some experimenting, I found that a standard -207 size O-ring fits rather well between the tubes. Viton or other oil and high temperature resistant material is required.

Willys Forum / F-161 Oil Pickup Tube
« on: November 24, 2020, 09:35:53 AM »
Is there supposed to be any sort of seal between the two pieces of oil pickup tube? Looking for confirmation it's supposed to be like this or help me identify a missing piece or step.

This was a running engine before I tore down, but fit sure seems sloppy - there's at least 1/8" of clearance between the two pieces. Seems like it would just want to suck air instead of oil.

Any help appreciated - Thanks!

I would strongly advise AGAINST this course of action. I expect it would be adversely effective for recruitment. We ought to be welcoming here, no different than you would interface and answer questions at a car show.

I came to know KFOCI through this forum. It's 2020. I found an answer here for a Willys question I searched Google for. Joined forum and asked more questions, ultimately joined KFOCI.

Progress photos- seam sealer on the roof and trunk opening gutters. Also did the trunk floor perimeter prior to sound deadener application. I'm happy with how it turned out - not as thick as original but it has the right look and texture.

Excellent - thank you both. I found a reference to paint process in the 54 Fact Book that confirms the gutters were seam sealed prior to paint, and looks like the trunk opening may have been done at the same point. I will hit it prior to paint.

I like LORD Fusor seam sealer. Started using it after reading this article. I plan to use it for everything, using the after-brush technique to make it look like brush-on type for the locations done after paint.
https://www.hotrod.com/articles/resto-tech-apply-seam-sealer-correctly/

Note that the earlier cars definitely have black sealer over the paint, as in the area shown in Thomasso's lower inner trunk lip. Must have been a running change to the lighter color shown.

These caught my eye. Pulled off an Aero wheel. Old used original Allstate wheel weights. I’d pitch em otherwise, but can send for cost of postage if somebody wants them for their curios collection. Just PM me.

Seeking photos of original cars; old pictures or unmolested original cars (w/original paint). Looking for factory-correct application of seam sealer, particularly around the trunk opening.
I 'think' that the seam sealer on the lip around the trunk opening was applied before paint, but my car had been repainted, and having trouble finding a good original reference photo.

From what I can tell:
Black brush-on seam sealer was used on all joints in the interior, underhood and trunk panels, and appears to have been applied after paint. Earlier '52 cars did not have this in all locations indicated in the shop manual. Service Bulletin 52-9 defines this as 'paste type sealer', Presstite No. 322.4

From what I can tell dum-dum coating sprayed on trunk floor, passenger floor, doors and inside roof were applied prior to primer. There is primer overspray on the edges, and paint color over top. Dum-dum on the bottom of car, though, in the rear wheel liners, is done after paint. Dum-dum is black with paint color underneath. The sheet metal wheel well inserts were black, regardless of body color, and installed prior to dum-dum application.

Huh. Looks like a full modern distributorless ignition system. Certainly something you dont often see.

Definitely cool, but my preference is for a subtle upgrade under the stock distributor cap.

Thanks!
