General Discussion / our new website
« on: May 28, 2023, 04:20:50 PM »
Hi,
I just now for the first time (with a little help from Barbara), went to our new website for the first time.  2 things I noticed which I'd suggest should be changed or improved.
1.  Under upcoming events our national meet for 1922 was listed, not the one for 1923
2.  No where was I able to find our club directory, as I wanted to contact a member from whom I purchased a Kaiser a few years ago.

Looks to me like the website could use some improvement.  Just saying

General Discussion / Re: Used tires - suggestions
« on: August 02, 2019, 07:30:09 AM »
Thank you both for responding.  I can understand the federal policy, they don't want those tires being used on the road.  That doesn't fit my case as I only want to use them to more easily move vehicles around in my Quonset building at about a half a mile an hour!  But as so often is the case a rule made for all ends up hurting the ones it doesn't fit.

Gordie, what are you doing with a garage in Missouri  if you live in California?  If you are planning to go to Missouri on your way to the national maybe you could just drop them off in Montana on your way by?  Just kidding.  You are right about freight and traveling.  I have no intention of traveling to Missouri any time soon.  Have to drive next week to TX again to pick up a car from John Hewlett and to WI next summer, all more than I like.  What town in Missouri?  If I find anyone going that way maybe I can work something out.  Would of course contact you if I do.  Not likely, but one never knows.

General Discussion / Used tires - suggestions
« on: August 01, 2019, 04:42:17 PM »
Any one know where I can buy old used tires.  Have lots of cars I want to sell, some basket cases and some much better.  Most don't have functioning tires.  I would like to obtain some used tires, not to drive on, just to be able to move the cars around easier in the storage building.  They can be bald.  Don't want to buy new tires.  Will buy new tubes.  Anyone have any ideas where I can find some.  I'm talking mostly late '20s and early '30s so 6.0 x 16, 6.0 x 18, 6.0 x 20.
Thanks,

General Discussion / Re: Technical advisors
« on: June 28, 2019, 07:48:58 AM »
I totally agree that this forum is very helpful, and does without a doubt, often accomplish the same thing a fixed technical advisor would.  But I still think there is something to be said for having a specific go to person for a particular year or car model.  And of course it wouldn't have to be, and in my opinion shouldn't be, an either or thing.  There is no reason why both could not exist side by side.  As they say in Hawaii, "mo bedda"

As to "loosing" experts, I'm sure that is happening in all clubs, but I see that more as a reason why we should have, and not should not have, technical advisors.

General Discussion / Technical advisors
« on: June 27, 2019, 10:42:36 AM »
In addition to my Kaiser I also own a couple of REO cars, so naturally enough I'm a member of the REO club.  There we have something I have found to be very helpful over the years, and I'm wondering if it might be something worth considering for our club as well.  "Technical Advisors".  These are club members who have volunteered to be the "go to guy" for a particular category of car.  There we have brass cars, the teens, Flying Clouds, Reo Royals, Reo Speedwagons etc.  Our history was not as long, the kinds of vehicles produced not as varied, but still there are significant differences.  Enough I think to justify having a different specialist for each.  We do have our forums of course which help in a similar way.

Just wondering if others think it might be something worth considering or implementing?

Kaiser Forum / Oil pump installation
« on: June 27, 2019, 10:00:44 AM »
Can anyone tell me, to change out the oil pump in my '48 Kaiser, is it necessary to take the motor out of the car, or can it be done by dropping the oil pan?
Thanks,

General Discussion / Plastic interior knobs
« on: May 24, 2019, 02:01:51 PM »
I'd like to restore the cone shaped knob on the end of the gear shift lever on my '48 Kaiser.  Many were broken off, but mine is in good shape, structurally.  But the half of it where the sun beat down for 70 years has surface degradation.  Looked like it had crystalized and was powdery to the touch.  I very lightly sanded that and seems sound again.  But the appearance is different from the half that was not exposed to the sun.  It is smooth and shiny.  Looks polished, almost as if it had a coat of shiny varnish (sure it isn't varnished, just looks that way), and smooth.  The degraded half is now rough to the touch and appears dull and crystalized.  Does any one know how I can restore the finish?  Any product or procedure in particular?  Has anyone addressed this issue in the past?  What is this material?  I thought maybe bakelite, but researching that on line it seems most of that is black, whereas this is a tan or cream color.

Kaiser Forum / Windlace/Weathercord in '48 K Special
« on: August 12, 2017, 09:56:47 AM »
I no longer have any of the original windlace in my car and I must now buy some to upholster the interior.  I am discovering there are various styles or appearance, depending on the kind of weave of the fabric covering the core.  Does anyone have a picture of ORIGINAL windlace from this model of car they could send me at      carleidsness@gmail.com

Parts For Sale & Wanted / inexpensive Kaiser parts
« on: August 10, 2017, 07:25:49 AM »
Reading through some bulletins from last year I came across an ad where a member was trying to sell off a lot of parts.  I called and a lady answered telling me her father had passed away and she had a "lot of" K-F and Studebaker parts that she wanted to get rid of and would sell the whole works for $300.  I would have liked nothing better than to oblige her, but with the parts in Georgia and me only a short time in Montana it just wasn't practical.  I tried to buy a headlight ring and hub caps, but her caps all had the lettering on them and were too small for my '48 Kaiser Special.  Now today she sent me this mail.

I sold  a little over 1/2 the stuff today.I would take a $ 100.for the
rest, but i know you are to far away.I still have some bumpers, grille
pieces, vent windows, handles, door handles, some new chrome to go down
the whole side of a kaiser manhattan i believe. Some radios& other
miscelanous items.
Mary

Somebody on the east coast, please, rescue this.  She is threatening to haul it to the dump.  If you get the stuff, I'd like to buy a head light rim and a couple door handles if they are the right ones for a 48.

Her name is Mary Davenport at 470-241-3132

Kaiser Forum / Re: What color this fabric?
« on: August 06, 2017, 07:17:48 PM »
He originally told me "a couple of months".  I said a couple would be o.k., even up till Feb. when my Canadian restorer takes my seats to AZ where he has upholstery and chrome work done during Feb. & March, but if it couldn't be done by then it would be too late.  Doug assured me he would have it finished before then.  I've heard bad stories, but also read a number of good review.  Guess I can only hope he will come through for me.  Did you have to pay much in advance Mark?

The color question for this fabric has now been solved with the help of Rollie Potts and his recently acquired NOS door panels.  The colors in it are perfect and will be replicated by SMS fabrics.  I need a couple more people to order fabric also to bring the price from $125 down to $95/yd.  Anyone needing fabric for a '47 or '48 Kaiser Special please contact me.

Kaiser Forum / Re: '48 Kaiser original
« on: August 05, 2017, 08:09:40 AM »
I now am quite confident that in Rollie Potts car I have found a perfect NOS sample of the striped fabric used in all '47 and '48 Kaiser Specials on the seats and door panels.  Arrangements have been made for SMS to replicate it.  If 2 more people decide to order along with me we can buy it for $95 instead of $125/yd.  If you, or anyone you know, could be interested in ordering, please get in touch with me.

Kaiser Forum / hub caps
« on: August 01, 2017, 07:44:42 AM »
My 1948 Kaiser Special has a couple plain baby moon hub caps.  But I have seen some pictures where the word "KAISER" is printed on them.  What did the cars come from the factory with originally in '48?

Thanks,
Carl
