Willys Forum / Re: 1955 Willys Custom Driver Quality

It seems this car has some history in the KFOCI as previously owned by Bill Tilden, a club historian.  when I bought it I knew nothing of it's past.  Here is a quote from Rick Kamen on The Willys Aero Survival and Preservation Group:

The green 1955 Custom came from Dave Horton in Florida and before that belonged to Bill Tilden. Dave inherited the green '55 and the '53 Eagle (also in this pic) when Bill died. Glenn bought the '55 from Dave Horton a little while back. This photo is from the episode of "Legends of the Road" that was about the Willys Aero. Bill and I were both interviewed and we had our cars together for the filming. The white and red Aero is none other than Old Toby. "Legends of the Road" was a 1/2 hour show that featured different cars each episode and aired on ESPN2 about 15 years ago. That's my cousin, Peter Goldsmith, the co-producer and me standing with the Aeros.

Please chime in here if you know more info.

My personal tour car, a two tone Green / White 4 Door, 37K mile and very dependable.  Mostly  original, paint shows age.  One of the better last edition Willys cars available.  A solid $10,000 value.  A Kansas parts car is included.  I'm in hospice care and would like to get this into lovin' Willys hands. Family not interested. Make me a CASH offer or a payment plan my family can work with.  Won't split the two as we are talking last edition Willys car. Message me for more pix and details.

Look at my article in KFOCI Quartely, I think Spring 2021 about 1955 Willys Cars.  I'll have to find it.  I have most all the delivery stuff that came with a Bermuda I just sold as well as a 1955 Custom parts car from Kansas.  When I get back from Hershey I'll dig it all out.  Never have found that notification to dealers informing them production was ending on 1955 Willys cars. Then I can scan anything for you to get good copies..

If you are at AACA MEET at Hershey Tuesday thru Thursday October 4-7 come by, sit a spell and swap Willys Stories.  I'll have some Aero stuff along with DJ3A  Goodies mixed in with usual JEEP CJ2A, CJ3A, CJ3B, CJ5, JEEPSTER, Al-Toy Models, Lots of Willys Literature, and Willys Special Equipment.  Tell me about your projects, bring pictures.  I really need a good usable F-134 engine.

Willys Forum / END of PRODUCTION LETTER to DEALERS for WILLYS CARS
« on: July 30, 2022, 12:10:52 PM »
Has anyone seen the official letter Willys Motors sent to dealers that they were no longer accepting orders for Bermudas and Customs?  All sources I've seen say production stopped in April, 1955 and we have ending serial numbers along with production totals.  It would seem likely a letter was sent to dealers.  Sure would like to see a copy of that letter.

Please everybody understand I don't have any part numbers, Just a bunch of heavy stuff. There were many changes thru the '52-'55 models. I don't want to pack them up, my health is poor.  My grandchildren are helping me get to VAE Show in WAterbury VT. Aug. 11-13 and also Hershey in Oct.  If a plan for someone to meet at one of these shows can happen, I want this stuff to get to enthusiasts that can use it.  Here's  pix of my '55 Custom I got out of FL. and havin' fun with this summer in Maine.

I've just sold my two Bermudas and trying to match up what fits.  When I get done I'll try to post pix, but without specific dimensions it'll be risky.

This stuff includes NOS trunnions, both upper and lower.  I don't have part numbers so if there are differences between years 1952-1955, you'll have to know exactly what you need.

While sorting some boxes of my old dealership gatherings I found a bunch of AERO NOS front suspension stuff.  Just a pile of parts, almost no part numbers.  If you can send measurements of exactly what you need, I'll try to help.  There's a pretty good picture to help in FAXON'S reprint Parts Book P.193.  Over the span of 1952-1955 there seeem to be lots of changes so you need to know exactly what you need. I can deliver any or all to Waterbury, VT Show August 12-13, also Hershey this fall.  PM me if you have needs.

For 1955 Willys front shock absorbers OESPECTRUM 5850 fit nearly perfect. The only difference is one end does not have the steel sleeve through the fastener end, but it easily can be removed from the old one and put in the n.ew one

For some reason that quote would not show up.  I'll try this.

I just found this previous post from 5/26/2020 by tinajkd59:

1955 Willys Custom

Does anybody know a modern part number for shock absorbers for our Bermuda and Custom Models?  The original numbers from my book show 809148 Front, Regular Duty and 906136 Heavy Duty, and 811643 Rear Regular Duty & 906137 HD.  These shocks are different part numbers than the 52-53 Aero models.

I just got my '55 Willys Custom out of storage, into repair shop, installed new rear transmission mount with no problem, road tested and all is well.  Now we  have rebuilt whole clutch assembly and transmission mount.  Also did a set of radial tires to be ready for summer touring in both these Willys products.
