Kaiser Forum / Who has 47-50 engine paint?
« on: April 02, 2021, 12:07:26 PM »
I did a full rebuild and I cant get the 49 seafoam color anywhere. I ordered engine enamel from Bill hirsh but the paint is for 51 and up way to dark. Anyone know what the color is called and who would have an enamel? I'm not gonna settle for the wrong color on it.

Kaiser Forum / Chipped block
« on: August 29, 2020, 05:33:12 PM »
I took my engine apart and on the block side of crank bearing 1 it looks like the previous person that got into my block knocked the corner out behind the bearing. Also I noticed two other weird areas 1- two holes coming out of the cast wall of the oil pump channel 2- a chunk missing on the back of the bearing where the oil pump drives.
I was going to machine this block anyway after a overheat but now im a bit disturbed. Is this salvageable?

Kaiser Forum / 1949 kaiser engine removal
« on: May 17, 2020, 10:19:48 PM »
I'm going to have to pull my engine unfortunately, I pulled my oil breather off and found green mucus like sludge so either my head is blown or my steamy breakdown vented into the pipe somehow the oil was drained after but it came out black. I have the parts and shop manual but it states that I have to remove my transmission W/ OD also. Is this procedure that i must follow or can I just disconnect it from the clutch housing and leave the trans in?  I'm in my 20's and never done anything like this so any pointers would be appreciated. Also what is the exact length of the fan belt? All I wanted to do was replace my fan belt but I stumbled on this  :'(

P.S. Always chuck the thermostat that comes in the engine when you buy it

Kaiser Forum / Re: Source for hood springs?
« on: March 01, 2020, 04:05:46 PM »
I really appreciate all the help, I have a shop manual and parts book I'll definitely contact some of these folks. But I don't trust these springs the metal is 71 years old and metal fatigue has set in. I'll buy NOS if I have to but I'm wondering if we know of anyone making springs new of the same spec.

Kaiser Forum / Source for hood springs?
« on: February 26, 2020, 12:15:07 PM »
Is there any know source for the large hood springs?
I have a 49 Kaiser and My spring broke into pieces after closing and opening the hood yesterday it felt weird so I opened it again and it fell apart on me. I bought one off a parts car and fixed it up,my original and this "new" one have failed.

Thanks for the help guys, I'm trying to buy a cracked one and get them both fixed at the same time. I might send them to Chaplin I was able to find an oldtimer near me that says he knows the tricks. As far as welding goes I'll save it as a last resort I can weld but I don't want to learn a to use a new rod on my own cast iron.

I am in desperate need of a exaust manifold for my 49 deluxe. My manifold had a crack and snapped due to a rusty center stud when attempting removal. No shops around me in suburban Georgia will touch cast iron so welding is not currently an option.

Hi Kuretake, just so we can better help, there were two different radios used in the 1949 Kaiser and both mounted very differently so it's important to know which one you have.
One was the early 1947/48 style radio which was installed with an adapter kit.  The other is the more common and larger one, with 6 push buttons, which mounts differently.

The top picture is the first style, the second is the other but the pic shows what it looks like mounted in a Frazer but it will look similar. Let us know which one you have.
I have the Radio with the 6 preset buttons, this manual shows the bracket type.

I've been slowly working on my 49 Kaiser and am in need of two parts at the moment, the chrome skirt that mounts onto the steering wheel and a radio bracket. I pulled my radio out to get it repaired and noticed that I had no bracket holding it in; just the lock washers on the knobs so it was slowly destroying itself.  If anyone has a radio bracket or steering wheel skirt for a 49/50 please let me know and we can discuss details on the phone or via email.

Kaiser Forum / 1949 Kaiser Questions
« on: April 12, 2019, 07:59:10 AM »
I recently bought a executive green 49 deluxe, legally my first car (not my daily). I'd like to fix a few issues any help would be appreciated. My main problems are the turn signals and break lights, the blinkers will pop up on the dash for a second then stop it'll only work if i wiggle the stock between the switch point but it won't stay engaged. The taillights work when i pull the headlight knob but when I depress the break pedal it makes no difference. Are the break lights tied into the blinker mechanisms wiring? I plan to pull the oil pan and replace the gasket and end seals I noticed rock-auto has 2 sets the FEL-PRO set is close to what my parts manual shows but it isn't cut the same as OEM. would this be an issue? The last question is how do I pull the radio and take the Z shaped clip out of the left knob?  please don't tell me i have to pull the dash apart :-\
