General Discussion / 1955 2-doors - how many left, and last sale?
« on: November 21, 2024, 02:42:49 PM »
Hi all,

I'm doing a little research on the remaining 1955 Kaiser Manhattan 2-door sedans. From the Registry, I see ten listed (one listed as "parts"). The one that was for sale in San Jose a couple years ago (51467-5001) isn't on the Registry, nor is the single-tone black ex-Tom Null car. Has anyone verified how many are actually still around, and condition? I've seen Ed Johnson's car (5014) on YouTube, which looks like the nicest survivor. Thanks!

Here's what Lee said about the car:

Quote
It was Champagne white Paint code 153 Red vinyl top and interior Trim code 7202.
According to the records I have It was owned by Fred Hermesch of Arizona and
his son Steve inherited it and he  sold it to Joe Marchione from
Philadelphia in the late 80's and then it was sold to Tom Null in the 90's;
my records are anything but complete.  I do not have all the records from
every year.

I'll check with him about the fasteners. Thanks!

Note that the crew covered the nameplate on the front fender - can't give free advertising to the competition!

I'm surprised no one's mentioned The Choppers from 1961; a '54 Manhattan is prominently featured. Unfortunately "prominent" means it gets thoroughly dismembered by car strippers:

At least you get to see some good detail views of the chassis after the car is rolled over  :-\

Darrin Forum / #225: a little update
« on: July 28, 2021, 02:19:18 PM »
Hi again! I've finally moved out to southern CA and I'm in contact with the current owner of Darrin #225 (last owned by Tom Null). Got to look the car over a few days ago and admittedly fell in love... ;D

Right now Ray, the owner, is looking for three sockets and one pin for attaching the rear of the top, plus a latch pin for the driver's door; are these off-the-shelf or is someone here reproducing them? Once these repairs are finished it will be listed on BaT and I'll post the link as I promised a while back. Thanks for your help!

Late as usual, but thanks for the advice - I appreciate it. Think I got a steering wheel located.
(Sending PM.)

I'm sure this will be a toughie, but does anyone here have Willys parts contacts in Brazil? The '63 Aero 2600 needs a few things: a steering wheel, a shift knob, and a dash pad (probably should go to Just Dashes for that, but...). Thanks for any advice! (I do speak Spanish, but not Portuguese  :-[)

Update update: The new owners (The Vickroy Collection in SoCal) decided to keep the red '63 Aero  ;D .  Got some new interior shots to share; they're interested in getting the dash redone and also asked about Willys parts sources. Who do you all recommend in the USA, and are there reliable parts suppliers from Brazil you've dealt with?
As always, thanks for everybody's help and advice!

This looks pretty complete and has an automatic; either an ambitious restoration or a very good parts car:

Update: The Tom Null collection has been divided up between the new owners, and they've decided to sell off several of the cars including Darrin #225. Will pass on more info when it becomes available so you guys can have a crack at it. I appreciate all your assistance!  :D

Several of the vehicles are in my Brazilian Willys thread; the cars were divided between Frank and the Vickroy Collection. The Brazilian-serialled '55 New York Auto Show Kaiser is among them along with Darrin #225.

When I was a kid, I saved this clipping which appeared in the Chicago Daily News in 1971; today I did a search and found a clearer copy for your amusement:
