Henry J & Allstate Forum / 51 HJ Wiring Harness
« on: October 16, 2023, 10:30:16 AM »
I've decided to stop trying to track down bad wiring and see if I can purchase a new complete wiring harness for my 51 HJ.  I saw some older forum threads from a few years ago mention Robert McBride as someone who has produced good harnesses for our little cars.  Does anyone here know if he still does this type of work?

Henry J & Allstate Forum / Seat Upholstery
« on: January 01, 2023, 11:24:07 AM »
I was wondering if anyone knows, off the top of their head, how many yards of upholstery is needed for the front and back seats in a HJ?  I have done some measuring, and came up with over 9 yards.  I've never redone upholstery before, and am really hoping that my measurements are incorrect. Surely it's less than that?

I sure appreciate your guidance on finding some of these parts!

I am finally starting back in on my HJ, and am discovering different items that I need for the interior.
Arm Rests
Inner panel retainer clips
Rear panel ash trays
Accessory knobs - choke, wiper, etc..  (all of mine have crumbled to pieces)
Floor Mats (front & back)
Trunk lock cylinder
I would also be interested in a decent front seat.  I can have mine recovered, but the springs and frame are not in the best condition.  Figured if I could find a seat that was in better condition than mine, I'd just have the new one recovered.
Also would like to find a decent heater or at least the blower motor that works.

I just read through all of your updates for the first time, and really enjoyed it.  You have done some great work on your HJ.  I might try to utilize some of your updates on my '51 HJ

I am looking for all interior upholstered panels for my 51 HJ.  I currently have nothing at all to work from.  Also looking for floor covering, either carpet or rubber.

I greatly appreciate your insight.  I have already purchased the service manual that you mentioned, but haven't bought the parts book as of yet.  I will do so this week.
Being a small block Chevy guy all of my life, I am very appreciative of your knowledge in the potential issues with this particular engine.
I plan to take the head off in the next day or so, and start to examine what I have, and what needs to be done.

Henry J & Allstate Forum / L134 Rebuild
« on: October 22, 2021, 12:28:51 PM »
Hello All! I'm a newby to Henry J's, having just purchased my first one a little over a month ago.  I am intending to keep it stock, and need to rebuild the L135 4 cylinder engine. The engine is not locked up, but one cylinder shows no compression.  I haven't opened it up yet to see if it's a valve or back cylinder.  But I had planned to rebuild the engine anyway, because I want it to be a reliable daily driver.  I'm looking for recommendations as to where to buy the necessary parts?
I'm sure that I'll have more questions as I go along.  I bought my '51 as a basket case, but relatively solid original.
