Question about the radiator. Size (measurements), tank locations, and inlet/ outlet locations.

Thanks for any response.

Hey, I started running wire the other day and I realized that the pig tails they gave me in the kit look quite a bit like GM pigtails. Can anyone tell me if they are the same?

Kaiser Forum / Re: adding a 54 supecharger to a 53
« on: September 02, 2010, 02:25:47 PM »
I think the supercharger would be a great way to boost both the appearance and performance of a 53, but since Kaiser didn't put a supercharger in their cars until 54, it wouldn't be a clone so I wouldn't worry about trying to make it 100% OE, I would go through and put a little 21 century know-how in it, tastfully hidden, of course. ;D
With that said I do have a few unconventional ideas that might solve some problems...
1. As far as the fuel pump is concerned, I bet you could mount an inline electric pump/filter along with some careful application of paint you could get it to look like a fuel filter and I'd bet it would fool 85% of the people out there.
2. I'd bet you could route some exhaust tubing from the supercharger inlet to a spot in front of the radiator, (maybe even behind the headlights) that you could mount your K&N too and get some nice cold air to the supercharger, And if you picked up couplers that looked period correct and painted everything, you could fool quite a few people.
3. If you plan on rebuilding the motor, I bet you could put some hardened seats and valves in that would make the motor handle boost better.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

Don't mean to hijack but did Kaiser change engine paint color with the body redesign? Most Kaisers I have seen have a teal/greenish engine.

Okay, so that raises the question "Where have other people put a fuse block?" I don't have much choice in the wiring of this car as I have no trace of wiring in this car. I don't even have any pigtails to connect any original lights. For me least, the fuse block is part of the "run with what you know" category.

I thought about a couple places, none of them sound spectacular but here it goes:
1. Mounting it to the firewall, under the hood, easy to mount, easy to access, but ugly.
2. The firewall again, but under the dash. Nice and hidden, but I don't know how easy to mount or access it will be due to the small size of the dash.
3. In the trunk, easy to access, easy to mount, and hidden, but then I have to deal with most of the wiring that needs to run to the front of the car.

Any thoughts? ???

Hey new question.

On a stock Kaiser, where would the fuse block be located?
How about the wires that run to the back of the car (for brake lights and such)? I know that some older cars (i.e.. 1980's) ran them on the frame rail, but most modern cars have them located along the door sills.

Comments are appreciated.

Kaiser Forum / Re: Type of Trans fluid
« on: August 29, 2010, 12:33:57 AM »
I have heard some drag racers using non-Ford automatics thought there was an advantage to using Type F over Dexron.
The way it was explined to me was as follows...
The reason was that unlike GM and Chrysler, Ford decided to control their shift firmness by "Friction modifiers" in the fluid, instead of in the valve body like GM and Chrysler. So what happened was when you put Type F in a GM or Chrysler trans you got a firmer shift, at the cost of a varnish buildup in the trans. The reverse happened if you put Dextron III in a ford trans.

Close 3.08.

This car will spend most of its life cruising between 65-75 mph and the 3.42 will put the motor spinning right on or just below its torque peak at those speeds, which based on my understanding will also produce the most mpg.

Now I was thinking that with all the torque available I would be able to get away from the higher numerical gears and run with something a little more highway friendly. I was thinking about running with a 3.42 because that should put me at 75 mph @ 2150 rpm, right on top of the torque curve. Compared to the approx. stock 4.11 which would put me at 2550 rpm @ 75 mph.

I assume 465 meaning 465ft/lb.

Now when you say low geared low end do you mean low as in ratio or numerically?

I was really considering doing the swap with the Suburban but I meet a man who just had to have it, so it is no longer a valid option. The extra money is nice though.

I don't know though 490+ ft-lb in a 3,000 lb car does sound like a lot of fun though.  ;D

Coincidentally I have all ready picked up a 200r4 for this project and my neighbor has a new radiator out of his 57 chevy waggon that he is trying to sell so, this has been great to hear from. I have also considered pulling the 350 out of my 85 c20 Suburban and using it instead, and putting the 455 with t400 in it, but differnt story...

Queston though, has anyone had any luck with any of the disc brake kits avalible? My brakes are shot from one end to the other (2 drums too thin to turn, missing most of the springs, and 4 brake cylinders with no hope of rebuilding). So I wondering if it might be cheaper to replace it all and update it at the same time, but only if they are worth the money.

Hello me again...

Let me explain a few things first, I have a 51 Deluxe that I am trying to get on the road, all I am starting with is a bare shell with only a few of the big interior pieces left (no trim, no nothing except seat frames and steering column). All my goal is to just get it running and driving with just the bare necessities to make it street legal (kinda like an old street rod). But in the mean time I have a few questions...

1. I need a radiator, It doesn't need to be an exact fit because I am willing to work with a more common size if it means I save a few bucks.

2. Comparatively how stiff are these cars? I'm just worried because I have a running 455 out of a 69 Olds and am considering just using that, but I don't want to twist the frame into a pretzel if I go to pass someone...

3. How about the rear end? It has to do more or less with the same reasons above.

Any comments would be gratefully appreciated.

-Matt
