The problem with pre-auction estimates for Kaiser-Frazer stuff is that the majority of sales (what small number they are) go between club members and either friends or people the seller trusts will give their cars a good home.  I have to say that Barbara and I fit both of these conditions when we got our 1952 Henry J (currently in the old car hospital getting a tune-up, annual oil change and brake inspection; could be done some time next week).  We hope we've done the executor for the estate proud in terms of attending local and area car shows as well as keeping the car in good order.

The auction houses charged for selling a K-F product (Jeeps and Willys Wagons or trucks go a different route) rely on information from owners on ownership history, equipment and other things that they don't know themselves.  The interested parties at the auction (I presume) did their homework properly and can tell what's what to decide what to bid to.   These days there are deals to be had at the major auctions on cars other than muscle cars and exotic types.

You're not kidding. Just look at this example :

From the description:

"While the DeLuxe Vagabond might sound like a stylish hobo, this car is one of Kaiser-Frazer’s best pieces of work. It should sell for between $20,000-$30,000. Click here for more info and here for more from this sale.

Update: Sold $10,080."

So I was browsing youtube, and the following video popped up in my feed. A 1954 Kaiser DeLuxe with a wood interior (supposedly originally made with bamboo wood but redone in oak).

I've been a member for a bit now, and while I've heard of the special Kaisers such as the polar bear , I've never heard of anything like this. My gut tells me this is not stock, but I figured I'd share just to see what everyone says   ;D If someone did this work it second hand it must have been a long endeavor.

pjkaiser,

Where does one get that shirt and/or belt buckle?

Thank you!

Some how I ended up with Edgar Kaiser's personal engraved Zippo lighter with a Kaiser Industries logo on it and I think that it would be the perfect accessory for Edgar's Henry J glove compartment.  Edgar like everyone back then was a cigarette smoker.

Is that the same lighter Edgar used to start the Hydramatic plant fire?

(just kidding)

I just found these listings and I think this is a great deal. The parts are in great shape and what I would think are a good bargain. Hope this goes to a club member restoring a '54

Thanks for the breakdown! I am indeed a member and have been pouring over the CD as of late - great information that really highlights the oddness of Manufacturing and selling these cars. I noticed the hood ornament on this “Traveler” is missing the plastic, which I gather would have been possibly black plastic (to denote the Virginian trim?).

Interesting - so with this Travelers  body number so high it falls outside the range of known produced 4 door traveler bodies? Have you seen another such goof like this before? Would be interesting to know when in the year the body was supposedly built (schedule # and such) and find another car with a similar time frame and see where the numbering is off...

Kaiser Forum / Re: One more 51 Kaiser Radio question...

Konrad,

I think this is an excellent question! To be honest, I have no experience with old radios as I never grew up with them - I had no idea you could set presets on the radio, I thought the buttons just “jump” to a random station and you tuned it from there. Thanks for the info everyone!

Cars For Sale & Wanted / Re: 1951 Kaiser 2 door traveler

Really! I had no idea - for the price of a new Kaiser Deluxe in ‘51, front carpet Wasn’t standard or an option? I’m not well versed in what was standard fare for cars in Kaisers price field - did similarly priced Buick’s or Mercury’s have the same thing?

Joe,

I know this post is awfully late but I just want to say, thanks for sharing! I’m noticing my ‘51 engine may be heading down the path for rebuild/ replacement. These engines, while fairly robust seem to be a gamble on wether you get a solid one or one prone to problems. Glad to see you stuck with one for originalities sake, It looks great.

Gordie - all ‘51 Deluxes or just Travelers? I wasn’t aware that was the case if it was all Deluxes - if you meant all Travelers then that makes sense, since the Vagabond was a Frazer for this year....

Cars For Sale & Wanted / 1951 Kaiser 2 door traveler

Found this listing for a maroon ‘51 2 door traveler in maroon with Maroon interior. I know I often see the claim 2 door travelers are rare, but they want a pretty penny for this one. A bit high I think at $21,500 but I’d love to see what everyone else thinks. It’s definitely a nice clean example.

Ah thanks for the close up photo. Yea my knob is different, but I guess that’s to be expected since it’s on the big Kaiser (2 door sedan) I thought from your earlier photo they were the same between the two. I think my car’s steering wheel, shift knob and radio dial knobs are all replacements - they are in too nice a shape to be original for sure. I remember hearing about the club having a run at manufacturing those parts long ago...
