Frazer Forum / Frazer engine config ?
« on: January 05, 2016, 07:24:13 AM »
I have 48 Manhattan. However it appears I may have a Kaiser engine. It has a single barrel carb and no balancer.

I have other extras on the car like visor, spotlight, air conditioner. M

Is this engine one that might have come with the original car or might this have been replaced?

I need to install new engine and considering one with dbl barrel with appropriate manifold.

You were correct. The fan that I was hearing was the defroster fan. I was told that the knobs on top were for the windshield wipers which could be operated independently. But since they weren't operating I never tried turning them. Plus car had been in the shop for repairs longer Thani have had it to drive or explore.

Now if I could only get my overdrive fixed where I don't have to shut the car off to have it kick out of overdrive.

The heater knob is not out. Therefore it may be the other option. I don't recall what that looks like right now.  I will go and check it now.

When the car ignition is turned on should the fan turn on as well?

I had some work done on the car and I did not remember hearing the fan come on before. I did have to install an electric fuel pump which had a vibrating notice.

The fan noise seemed to be coming from the passenger side dash area.  The fan in the air conditioner is not turned on.

Frazer Forum / OD question - another one
« on: April 10, 2014, 08:37:51 AM »
My OD has not worked for a while but when I had a tranny replaced I think something happened to get it to engage again. (The Tranny got stuck between gears and could not be released by manually moving the linkage.) The car would run again the OD could be engaged but when the car came to a stop the the OD would not disengage. The car had to be shut off and then the OD would disengage and then the car could shift gears including going in reverse.

To get by this problem while we were waiting on a switch both wires to the switch were put on the same terminal and the car ran ok. I just never put it into OD.

A new Rail switch put in and the same problem is present where OD will not disengage once the car comes to a stop. The battery is new. I have not had the relay contacts checked.

Just seeking suggestions and options to consider or eliminate.

The final word on the starting problem was a bad ignition switch. There was something loose or not connecting within the switch. Switch was replaced and the car starts fine

Thanks for all the ideas and suggestions.

Generally the mechanic has been able to resolve any issues I have had. He didn't have the repair or parts manual. I just dropped them off so he would have those resources. In his review of the engine without the manual it wasn't obvious where it was located. There was engine work done on the car before I got it and I am not sure if it was removed and d the opening plugged.

Frazer Forum / Temperature Sensor question for 48 Frazer
« on: May 06, 2013, 09:29:09 AM »
All of my gauges work ok on the car except the temp gauge. As you can imagine this does cause me great concern. I asked my mechanic to check the temperature sending unit and he could not locate one. I would think that the car does have one.

QUESTION: Where is this part located on the car and what sort of value should I be looking for once the car is running for a while

The problem seems to be a bad ignition switch. When I turn the switch to on then the electric pump does come on. However, when I press the starter button the car did not turn over. If I wiggle the key in the switch, then the car starts.

Thanks for the replies.

FYI: the battery is a new 6 volt battery. Been in use about 2 months.

When I press the starter switch there is no notice or click. If I continue to turn the key off then back on several times along with pressing the starter button then the car may start. A couple times it started right up. Mostly recently I have to go through the starting sequence 4 to 8 times.

I love the car though :-)

Looking for simple ideas for determining the source of why my car won't start when the starter button is pushed. I don't know if it is the started button or ignition switch. Problem seems to have started when an electric fuel pump ( and regulator) was installed. It always started before but it could just be coincidentally related to the fuel pump. I did not do the installation of the pump so I am not sure how its wired in.

By the way, the electric pump is a little noisy but no vapor locking so far and that is a big relief.

Frazer Forum / Hood ornament placement
« on: October 14, 2012, 11:18:06 PM »
Is there a template or specific measurement that indicate we're to place a hood ornament on  Frazer manhattan? I think the hoods for the 48 and 49 were the same. I am seeking to retrofit an ornament in a 48.

Thanks
