Cars For Sale & Wanted / 1951 Kaiser Golden Dragon
« on: April 23, 2010, 06:45:43 PM »
Hello Everyone
I have noticed a 1951 Golden Dragon in kijiji Edmonton. It's located in Stettler Alberta, the owner wants $1000.00 CAD for it. But don't get your hopes up because it's been in a farmers field so long that the wheels have sunk into the ground.
  Thanks Roger

Wow! That 54 sure looked great. Is it just me or did it make that 56 Chevie look shabby?

Modified Kaiser-Frazer & Willys Cars / Re: Engine Conversions
« on: January 18, 2010, 09:29:46 PM »
Hello
This is a very interesting topic. I would like to know if anyone has measured out a Kaiser frame and compared it to a truck chassis? I would think that a truck chassis would be simpler to modify.

Kaiser Forum / Re: 226 not running
« on: January 01, 2010, 05:23:57 PM »
Hello Logan
If all the other easier things don't work as suggested by the other members. I had a similar problem with an old Rambler, it was the timing chain had jumped a cog (still runs but low on power) but the second time it jumped it threw the timing out so bad that it had to be towed. If the distributor hasn't been disturbed a timing light will varify this condition.

Parts For Sale & Wanted / Re: Engine parts wanted
« on: December 14, 2009, 01:02:45 PM »
Hi There
I have been following your conversation,  and I recommend having a large fire extinguisher handy.  If the timing isn't just right and you get a backfire and a carb fire, it gets really interesting under the hood ( we lost a 48 Chevy doing just that)

Kaiser Forum / Re: Removal of Main Bearings
« on: December 10, 2009, 06:44:57 PM »
Hello
When you are in there checking the mains, don't forget to do the thrust bearing for movement (front to back) on the crankshaft. A while ago we were about to rebuilt a motor because of a knock, and we found that the main thrust bearing hadn't been replaced so all we had to do was replace it and the knock was gone. The old "back yard mechanics" didn't like to do mains so they just replaced the con bearings.

Cars For Sale & Wanted / 1948 frazer
« on: November 24, 2009, 04:20:33 PM »
Hello Everyone
I have noticed a green 48 Frazer in  Oldride.com  Someone should take a look at this car. The pictures look pretty good and he is selling quite cheap ($6K down to $3K). I am not interested in that model but somebody in the KF club could be.

Kaiser Forum / Re: speedometer '53 Kaiser
« on: November 09, 2009, 12:42:14 PM »
Hello there maybe other reasons for the speedo cable to twist off. (1) the outer cable could be kinked (check it closely especially where it goes through the fire wall) (2) if the weather was cold water could have got in an froze.  Another thing we use to do was put a slight bit of oil on the cable end that goes into the speedo head (very little oil just enough to give the bushing a little lubrication.
One more thing if my memory serves me, there is a right way and a wrong way to install the cable the wrong way will bring oil up from the transmission into the speedo head.

Kaiser Forum / Re: Paint Question
« on: June 07, 2009, 09:08:44 PM »
Hello Guy's
I could be wrong but I was told all the new vechicles manufactured these days have a two coat paint and the peeling you see is the results of a after market "No Wax" type coating done locally. The new cars and trucks stay shinnie without wax as a result of this new painting technique. I have also heard that the paint industry is working on a Latex base automotive paint to get rid of the chemicals in a move to "Green up".  This is very interesting.

I agree with Hj-ETEX it sounds like he's been "around the block (electronic) a few times", and I don't want to leave my self open to any more spam.

Hello
The reason the Dealers installed the antenna on the left side to make it  a lot harder for the kids to break them off when parked on the street.

Cars For Sale & Wanted / Re: 1954 Kaiser Manahattan For Sale
« on: May 05, 2009, 11:34:39 AM »
Hi Dotti
I have noticed that a 54 Kaiser is for sale on ebay. It looks very similar to the blue Manhatan that you advertized in this forum (different wheels and the visor removed). If you still have it I am interested.

Kaiser Forum / Re: Drum Pulling
« on: April 08, 2009, 11:51:10 PM »
Hello Logan
I can't remember what the Kaiser rear drums look like, but it sounds like something similar to Chrysler up to about 1961 (I inherited a puller from my Dad which he used for his '41 Plymouth).  So if you could borrow one to see if it works for you.
Some advice: if the puller doesn't work (with the puller as tight as you dare to go) you could try a little heat on the hub while tapping with a hammer. Another trick we would use to check for cracked drums is to wash them in Varsol (the stuff the mechanics use in their parts washer) dry it with a clean cloth and blow the drum down with air and then using a light on the inside a crack shows up as a wet line.
 I hope this helps Roger

General Discussion / Re: Restoration of a 1954 Kaiser Manhattan.
« on: March 21, 2009, 12:55:53 PM »
Hello
There is a transmission additive called Lucas Tranmission Fix, it is good for automatics and standard transmissions. I have no idea how it works but it sure does the job on hard shifting and oil leaks and on the label it says it won't void a new car warranty. I have used it on my son's Explorer and a friends Civic two years ago and they are still on the road. So for a couple of dollars give it a try it won't hurt anything and it might solve the problem.

Kaiser Forum / Re: Change to automatic?
« on: March 01, 2009, 03:21:42 PM »
Hello
I have converted a couple of 50's cars usually from automatics to standards when I was a lot younger. The easiest way is to have a "donor car" because there always some little part that person needs to complete the project.  Usually the differential has a different ratio for the automatic than the standard transmission.
I would suspect that the sycomesh rings in the standard are worn and a rebuild would be a good idea.
