Kaiser Forum / Re: how to remove driver's door ventilator window
« on: April 10, 2021, 09:58:50 PM »
I just read the instructions on page 250 in the shop manual and they neglected to mention a screw at the bottom of the window channel that needs to removed. To access this screw the door panel needs to be removed. Some times this screw at the bottom of the channel is rusted really bad and I have had to drill the head off of the screw.

The 51-55 Kaiser master cylinder is the same as Ford used on their 49-51 cars. Try the Ford vendors if you are looking for parts. I would also try Rock Auto.

Why do you want to 'upgrade' your 49 Kaiser to 12 volts?

Someone got really creative in the way they mounted the generator, it is mounted up side down.

Kaiser Forum / Re: Frozen '53 Dragon Thermostat
« on: October 23, 2019, 11:46:16 PM »
The thermostat is held in the housing by a steel band that is about one inch wide. The band is probably rusted so bad that it looks like it is part of the housing. Use a screw driver and a hammer to chip away the rust and you will find the steel band witch is probably rusted beyond use at this point in time. I have been buying a copper pipe coupling at the local hardware store, cutting it to the proper width with a hacksaw and bending it to fit inside the housing to retain the new thermostat.

How did you remove the old wheel and tire? What size was the old tire?

The Dragon looks really nice but I noticed the bumper bullets that are on the front are rears. I wonder if the fronts are on the rear.

Page 214 in the 51 K-F shop manual says the shoe with the long lining goes in the forward position.

The upper shift arm, which is low and reverse, is not connected to the shaft until the gear shift lever is pulled up to shift into low or reverse. Follow the procedure that joe outlined in the above post. Low and reverse do not have synchronizers and there are no adjustments that can be made inside the transmission.

Kaiser Forum / Re: Hood bolts
« on: June 01, 2018, 09:48:55 PM »
I think you lost a rivet, not a bolt. Look at the hinge on the other side and see if it is a bolt or a rivet. If it is a rivet, you can patch it back together with a bolt and a self locking nut. Be careful not to over tighten the nut if you patch it back together with a bolt and nut.

It has an 8 volt battery in it which would indicate a starting problem to me.

I think 324darrin may have pin pointed your problem. The flex line that connects the fuel pump to the steel line that goes to the gas tank may be almost swollen shut from the ethanol in the gas that we are buying today.
