Frazer Forum / Re: Frazer Manhatton 1949
« on: April 02, 2022, 05:52:49 PM »
Hi Howard, I've had keys made for cars missing their keys twice. First was a 1951 Frazer Manhattan hardtop. Out of state to buy car, all keys lost. Hired a mobile locksmith who happened to have correct key blanks. He drove 60 miles and successfully cut keys for both the ignition/door and trunk locks. Turned out trunk was packed full of most of the parts that were missing from the car, but then found it was also missing the power window pump and driveshaft, and seller was unable to find the title. I didn't buy the car but at least she now had keys. The locksmith charged $59 for the trip plus $45 per lock for a total of $149.
My second time was when a car was delivered by truck a couple years ago. Either the truck driver or the seller lost the original keys. I went on eBay and found NOS key blanks identical to the originals. Had a local locksmith come over and he cut the keys with no problem for both the ignition/door and trunk. He also had generic key blanks and made up some spares. It cost me $50 per lock.
You would have to have correct key blanks. You might get lucky if you find a locksmith with a good supply of older key blanks. Otherwise you would have to find key blanks before you hire the locksmith. I happen to have a spare ignition/door blank from my 1950 Frazer Manhattan. If you PM me I would be happy to send it to you free and provide the key blank numbers for the trunk key which you should be able to find.
Good luck with your Frazer.  All KF products are great cars and 1949 Frazer Manhattans are one of my all time favorites.  Hope this is helpful.  Jim Meehan #2418

Hi William,
I think Rudy carries fender skirt rubber, saw it in his catalog not long ago.  By the way, I meant to say thanks for your post some time back about Egge Machine.   I grew up in your area and remember them well, didn't know they were still around.  Good to know they have water pumps for our cars.  When I was selling off some spare parts about ten years back, I believe you bought a few things and I delivered them to you and another KF collector named William who is also in Whittier. I think you were working on a '49 Frazer Manhattan at the time.  So you have a Virginian now too? One of my favorite cars!  Since I dropped those parts off to you I also have acquired a Virginian and a Frazer convertible as well.  Next time I'm in your area visiting my mom maybe I could stop by and compare projects. Good luck with the skirt rubber.   Jim Meehan

It sold for $35,000, not including tax or the 10-12% buyer commission.

Darrin Forum / Darrin Featured in 1955 Movie "A Life at Stake"
« on: October 24, 2018, 03:25:28 PM »
I was watching a movie the other night that prominently features a Darrin.  The title of the movie is "A Life at Stake", made in 1955 and starring Angela Lansbury.  It is a black and white movie but the car appears to be white.  The Darrin is hers and you see several great close up shots that show details of the car very well.  At one point she is plotting to kill the lead man in the movie and they pretend to almost push the Darrin off a cliff, but he saves himself and the car at the last second.  Probably considered a "B" movie at the time but it was a lot of fun watching the movie and the best part is you can see it free if you are able to access YouTube.  Just search in YouTube for the title of the movie.  Hope this hasn't been mentioned before, but thought someone might enjoy seeing it.  Cheers!  Jim

Frazer Forum / Re: Fuel Gauge Sending Unit Question

Thank you very very much DTort96646 for your post.  And thanks to Fid as well.  Now I can sleep easy knowing that I won't go up in smoke, that it is normal for fuel to drip from that rivet, and that it does not need to be replaced.  Thanks again !!

Thanks for the input Fid.  Looks like you did a great job repairing your brass float for your Henry J.  I've attached a few photos to show what I am talking about for my Frazer.  In one of the pics I am using a screw driver to point at the rivet in question.  Another pic shows it with the rivet dangling and loose.  The gasoline was dripping out from around this rivet.  The last pic shows the whole thing, including the tired old gasket.  I hope this helps clarify.  Thanks again !

Frazer Forum / Fuel Gauge Sending Unit Question
« on: October 13, 2018, 05:37:18 PM »
The gasket on my fuel gauge sending unit has failed on my 49 Frazer.  I've removed the sending unit to install a new gasket.  I discovered that it has an earlier sending unit, a 47/48 part number 200468 instead of the 205507 that shows in the parts book.  It seems to work okay, so that is not the issue.  I intend to reinstall it.  However, when I was cleaning it up, I noticed gas dripping out of it from the underside.  The underside of the unit that faces down into the tank has a rounded bulge that protrudes down inside the tank.  Attached to the side of this bulge is the pivoting arm with float.  On bottom of this bulge is a small rivet head.  This rivet has a tiny bit of movement when you touch it, and it is from this rivet/hole that the gas drips from.  In other words, there is gasoline inside this lower bulge.  I know little to nothing about how these things work, but I think that inside there are electrical parts that the gasoline might be in contact with.  Seems like a recipe for disaster........ gasoline and electricity coming together?!  So here's the question.  Is it okay for gasoline to be inside the bottom bulge of this unit?????   Your expert advice is appreciated.  Thank you, Jim

Parts For Sale & Wanted / Selling My Parts Collection On eBay
« on: November 16, 2012, 02:59:00 PM »
Hello All,

Just wanted to let you know that I am selling off my small collection of Kaiser and Frazer parts that I have had for many decades.  I've decided to sell them through eBay, so I have recently started listing parts under my eBay name "riverock".  I have not kept up with the market as far as prices are concerned, so I just looked at what's out there and tried to be realistic.  If I'm too high on some stuff, I'm sure potential buyers will let me know.

If you're wondering who I am, I first joined the KFOCI 42 years ago and was mostly active in the 1970's in Southern California.  I have been in and out of the club over the years, most recently about two years ago.  You will find my name in "Kaiser-Frazer The Last Onslaught On Detroit" by Richard Langworth, next to the color photo of my 1948 Frazer Manhattan, page 243.  I've owned many K-F products over the years, including a Frazer convertible, a couple of hardtops, Vagabonds and others.  The cars are long gone.  I've been clinging to these parts with the thought I would own another K-F eventually, but I have come to realize that won't be happening.  That is, unless I win the lotto and wake up 30 years younger!  So, I am letting go of the parts.

Not a ton of parts, but some good stuff like a couple pairs of '49/'50 Kaiser fender skirts complete with mouldings, a set of restored fender skirt mouldings, various script, '49/'50 Frazer hood ornament and steering wheel and horn rings/medallions, '51 Frazer tail light assemblies with lenses and parking light lenses, '47/'48 radio, bumper guards for '47/'48 and '51 Frazers, small stuff like gear shift knobs and turn signal levers with knobs, lighters, a few manuals and a dealer binder with service bulletins, etc.  I even had a couple of incredibly rare '51 Frazer "Manhattan" scripts, almost impossible to find 40 years ago, but those have already sold.  A lot of this is up now on eBay, and I hope to get the rest on in the next couple of weeks.  Below is a link to my current listings on eBay.

Thanks for hearing me out!

Cars For Sale & Wanted / Re: 51 Frazer Hardtop
« on: October 30, 2012, 01:11:09 PM »
I know a little about this car.  It is listed in the K-F Registry: in the list it is car #18 with the owner given as Campbell in Alberta, Canada.  I guess it was in California at some time, but for years it sat in Fred Walker's storage building.  He offered it to me when I was there four years ago, and I almost bought it from his widow Irma a couple years ago.  It still had receipts in glove box in the Campbell name from Canada, and Fred told me bought it there and towed it down to Colorado.  After discovering it was missing part of the system that ran the vacuum windows, the drive shaft, and had no title, I opted out.  Just a little too much for me to deal with at the time.  But it is a nice, solid car, and seems to be priced well.  This was actually for sale in the KFOCI Bulletin some time ago, being offered by Rudy Phillips.  Not sure if he is the one selling it now.  That's about all I know of this car.  Sure looks nice cleaned up a bit!  If I only had more time, money and energy!!!

I apologize not answering you right away, but I left town for a few days to take my kids on a camping trip.  Another member bought the hubcaps shortly after I posted my message, so I am sorry to say they are no longer available.  Thank you to all who responded.

Hello All, I am getting ready to sell off some hubcaps I've collected over the years.  I have a couple of Frazer hubcaps with the Frazer crest, which I believe were used from '49 to '51.  One is very nice, the other has dull chrome.  Can anyone tell me approximately how much I should ask for them?  Thanks for your help!
Jim
