I finally realized that the wheel studs are not my problem, it is my rims. I looked at some spare ones that I have and they have a very prominent raised lip around the stud holes. The ones on the car are flat which made the nuts bottom out against the stud collar. Just a matter of changing rims now. Thanks for all of the help.

What specifically do you need to know about it?  There are two different types - one for the car equipped with Hydramatic and one for those with standard transmission.

Circle KF was a HUGE help in both the service and parts categories in resolving my questions.  The new kingpin took care of a minor steering wobble even after adjusting the steering box and replacing the center link pin and bushings.

For starters they are called wheel studs.  Threads are 1/2 by 20, RH thread on LH side and LH thread on RH side.  There are a number listed and claimed to fit on line.  I have had no personal experience.

Sorry, I mis-spoke on the one post. The type of lug bolt that I am looking for is installed from the back side of the hub.

The fuel gauge has a wire running from it to the sending unit at the fuel tank. That wire sits at the top of the tank which is just below the trunk floor. If the wire connection touches the trunk floor it will ground the wire and the gauge will read as full. It could also be that the wire has a bare spot somewhere between the sending unit and the gauge and the bare spot is touching metal and causing a ground and full gauge reading. Sounds like you have some detective work to do!
