51 Kaiser Frazer two door
« on: March 18, 2010, 07:15:59 PM »
Hello,

I have a bit of an odd question, so I am hoping for a few honest answers from some good people in the know. My father passed away lat last year and left me with a 51 kaiser frazer 2 door. The thing is, Ive got hangers on who want to buy the car from me for 3 or 4 thousand dollars and I have no idea what the car is worth so I was hoping a few of you could give me a ball park idea of what I should tell them I want for the thing and what it is actually worth. So if someone could reassure me Im not getting screwed that would be great. Having a really difficult time finding information on this thing and there arent any for sale anywhere. So far as I can tell the car is completely stock and has the factory six cylinder motor, the interior is near perfect and the paint just needs a good buffing, it has been stored in a car hauler for the last few years so Im sure it needs some tinkering, but I know it ran when he stored it. Any help is greatly appreciated. I will try to add a picture or two if I can figure out how...

Thankyou very much.

Hello...based on your description, a 51K 2 door that just needs odds and ends is worth more than $3 or $4K. Of course, this is based on a stock car with an original interior. If you click on my posting name (joefrazer) it'll give you my email address. Send me some pix and I'll give you a better idea as to value. I can post 'em here too so potential buyers can check them out too!

It's also important to note that there was no car called a "Kaiser Frazer."  That was the name of the company and they manufactured the Kaiser and the Frazer as two seperate cars, the Kaiser being the more common of the two.  Based the fact that you mentioned it was a 2 door, then it is a 1951 Kaiser as there were no 2 door Frazers of any kind.
There's been a couple on ebay recently, like this one which is too rough to give a gauge other than the seller's $2000 tag was too high for any ebayers

This four door was not a bad looking car but not completely original, which sometimes doesn't matter to buyers -

It brought $5,000 and it was the "low end" model and a four door. A 2 door is not nearly as common.

Do you have any idea what the name of the two door model is?

Thanks

Probably a '51 Kaiser 2-door Sedan. Maybe a Special?

Up under the hood there is a serial number plate. Copy down what's on it and post it here. One of us will tell you all about you Kaiser.

The 1951 Kaiser came in two basic models, the Special and the Deluxe.  The Special was very sparse as far as chrome and trim are concerned where the Deluxe had large chrome (stainless steel actually) rub rail moulding around the bottom, chrome around the windshield, the upper section of the dash was padded and the lower section chrome (the dash in the Special was painted the same color as the car and lower section gray) and later Deluxe models had a clock as a standard feature.  The Deluxe had full wheel covers and the Special had small caps but it's important to note than many restorers add the Deluxe trim and features to a Special so the only way to really know is to look at the tag inside the driver's door and note the model number.  If it's K511 it's a Special, a K512 is a Deluxe.

Quick update...the seller sent some pix which I will post in a bit. The car is a 51 Special 2 door sedan and is a nice looking car. It's painted black and the interior is very nice. Again, pix a little later.

An important distinction is whether the car is a two door sedan or is a coupe. The coupe is more rare and likely to be more valuable. Another distinction is whether it is a special model called a Traveler--this would be a hatch-back rather than a car with a conventional trunk. A picture or two would be worth a thousand guesses as to possible value.

That is pretty.  I'd buy it for 3 or 4 thousand.

The car is a nice later production 1951 Special 2-door (narrow stainless was a running production change as of 12/10/50).

If anyone is interested in the car feel free to contact me at 352-812-8388.
The car is currently located in st petersburg Fl, but it is loaded into a car hauler and I can arrange transport.

Thanks
