Green engine paint

Any update on the paint experiments. Anyone have a source for the engine paint, I hope to have the engine back in a few weeks, well if I can locate a head, and will need to paint the engine before installation.

Sorry Warren...I didn't get any pics to eyeball:-/...if you use the search feature, I recall a thread on some paint. It was a bit pricey so that's why I will be mixing to match. It's just on the back burner for now.

I am trying to clean a spot on the transmission that I can get a good picture of, I assume it is the same color. However, how accurate a picture I take will reproduce on your computer is guestionable.  i may take a sample to a paint shop and see if they can scan and reproduce the color, I don't see much flack in the green.

I have access to graphic design software and equipment that displays ridiculously high resolution. I was focusing mostly on the metallic...I too was finally able to catch a glimpse of a small area and in speaking with another member, agree it's probably not true flake additive. He gave me a great baseline to work with. It is more than likely one of the many aluminum tints, but there are a number of them from coarse-very fine (almost a pearl powder)and degrees of solid content. Not wanting to overthink it, but I only want to do it once:-)  By the time I get to that phase you'll probably be beyond where I'm at.

I have a pint of the correct color as well as a draw down of the paint on a piece of sheet metal. I'll try to scan the chip and post it later today. I do not have a mix formula.

Jim, If I could borrow the metal sample, I could take it to the shop and simply hit it with our spec gun:-)  On another note, I'll be picking up the sample HJ shifter to return.

Well, I ran the sample thru my scanner and the results are too dark...probably because of the lighter background.

You're welcome to borrow the sample - I tried to run it thru the analyzer at Sherwin Williams but their gun didn't produce a match.

I got busy today and using a fresh sample from the pint can of paint that I have, I was able to match the green to KFs 1952 Garden Green Metallic. I'm going to take the DuPont chip I have to SW this weekend to see if they can match to a known formula. Stay tuned!
