December 2010 Hemmings Motor News
« on: November 09, 2010, 08:57:45 PM »
Look for the new Hemmings as it has a nice article on a beautiful 1953 Kaiser Carolina under their Classic Car Profile.  The Carolina is a scarce two door with Hydramatic.  Also there is a nice picture of member Steve Carey's super '51 Henry J that is a consistent trophy winner and looks like new.

Hemings Classic Car ran a profile of the same car a few months ago--maybe half a year or more.  Anyway, it's always nice when our cars get attention.

Isn't it funny about those Carolinas? Since they were cost leaders, you might expect them to all be non-OD 3 spds, yet the ones I have seen at the Nationals were all Hydramatics!

The two door Carolinas are rare too, about 400 if memory serves. Strangely enough, every Carolina I've seen (all three!) were two doors and two of them have Hydamatics and the other has OD. Wes Durst owns a really nice black two door with a Hydramatic. Don Gordon owns a 2 door with a Hydramatic. Del Fankhauser here in the Twin Towns owns a nice 2 door which is equipped with OD.  Sometimes Del and I would attend the same rallies and he'd have his Carolina and I'd have the '51 Special - both very sparsely trimmed cars with no chrome, not even a horn ring.  Spectators who saw them together might conclude that Kaisers were cheap no-frills cars which we all know was hardly the case. I didn't see Del around much this year at all. He's currently restoring a '51 Traveler. He's got the body off it and the engine redone.

Our Carolina is a 53 Green 4dr. with a hydramatic, day-night mirror, radio delete. Someone added the Manhatten trim. The rubber floor mat is deteriorating and will be replaced with carpet.
