It depends upon what sort of filter unit is on the car now. If it's a unit where the cap is removed and the filter sits in the canister, it'll probably either be a NAPA 1010 or 1080. I've also seen some with a larger unit that uses a Fram C3 filter. Then there's the type where the entire unit is replaced. That's a Fram PB 1/2, I'm not sure what the NAPA equivelent is...if any.

The normal replacement element filter for a 1949-50 Kaiser-Frazer vehicle was supplied by Purolator. It has a black painted canister and has a large bolt at the top. Opening the top allows you access to the filter element which should be a P-70FF or the equivilent. This was also used on a range of other vehicles including 1950's chrysler 6 cylinders with a replacement element filter unit. I have also seen some Fram filters on cars. The canister is orange with black top and brackets to hold it to the engine. There is a larte bolt with "wings" (like a large wingnut) to remove the top. Jim is correct that this tapes the C-3 filter, used on some Studebakers and other makes of car as they were a popular switch with gas stations . Type 1/2 replacement canisters were NOT used on 1949-50 models, only 1951-55 Kaisers on the assembly line (most were replaced at one time or another with Purolator or Fram by dealers). Type 1/2 filters have been out of production for just about 40 years.
If you take off the top and the filter is still in there, please advise on brand name of the filter and the type; I have interchange manuals that cover recent and go back to before 1945. They even list local and regional/industrial brands I've never seen or heard of!

You are correct for the AC number if it is a purolator unit.

My Allstate 4 cylinder, 1953 model, has the Fram canister. The sticker on top calls out for a C4P2 cartridge. Obsolite #, AC Delco part #P115 and are available at USD on 16th Street and Riverview, just South of University 1580 East Riverview.
