#81 Cleaning the Body - Dustless Blasting!!!
« on: June 07, 2015, 06:45:30 AM »
I was pleasantly surprised with Dustless Blasting.  They did in 4 hours what it would have taken much much longer to clean and prepare my Darrin Body for reinforcing fiberglass underneath the body.
We started with the body upright, removing the paint and primer overspray, used to make the molds and clean up what has already been done by traditional methods as I have previously mentioned.

Opps, sent it before I added more photos.

Then we turned the body on  its side and this is what we started with!!!

You can see the progression in pictures 2 and 3.   I can't say enough about Dustless Blasting.  They use crushed glass in a water solution that takes off paint, primer, and BONDO, yet leaves the fiberglass!!!!   It took an hour to clean up the upper part of the car and three hours to do the entire bottom.  Department of Customz with now put two layers of fiberglass under the car to strengthen the body.

The last two pictures show how the laid the fiberglass in 1954.  Very interesting.

I had the engine compartment and the underside of my car blasted with walnut shell and then had the botem shot with a chopper gun. Then sanded the wheel wells and the engine compartment. I made it smother then it was from the factory. It defenitly sealed the bottom. Then layed new glass and vail cloth on the topside. The difficult part was getting the top fender lines straight and correct.
They are beautiful cars when done right.
Looks like yours will be in the beautiful car category.
Good luck and hope to see you at a convention soon.
