riveted hubcap clips
« on: August 08, 2017, 03:14:12 PM »
Howdy, I have 5 wheels for my Darrin (yes I know this is the Henry J forum). Since the wheels are the same for both vehicles and I plan on using Henry J hubcaps, my question relates to the hubcap clips. One of my wheels has had the clips snapped off. I want to replace the clips and have found that VW clips from 1950 to 1974 look to be very similar to the clips provided by Kaiser and are pretty cheap at about $20 for a set of 5. Anyone have experience with this? Steve

Henry J wheels are pretty easy to find.  If you are going to use the Henry J wheel covers on your car instead of the hubcaps you won't need the clips as the wheel covers are attached to the wheel by the cover itself and not by the clips.

OK, but my post indicated, I think, that I am going to use hubcaps not wheel covers. So the clips are imperative. if I could get a wheel with the clips for the cost of replacement clips, that would be the way to go. So does anyone know the answer to the clip question. thanks, Steve

If the clips look the same they would probably work.  Clips once installed can be adjusted a little by tapping them with a hammer or bending with pliers or screw driver. Make sure that the hole for the rivet is in the same place as the Henry J clips.

That is correct. You sound surprised that someone would do that to a Darrin. Well someone put an Olds 324 V8 in it a bunch of years ago so I hardly think it matters from a stock perspective. Steve

Here is a pic of a Darrin with the hub caps that I propose using. How about red wheels to match the interior? Steve
