While many over the years have swapped V8 engines into their Kaisers, Bobby’s was the first I’d ever seen that looked like it belonged in the car. His workmanship was second to none and the two cars I saw of his ran great.

He will be missed.

The car Bobby was most well known for was a 54 Manhattan with a 350/TH400. He drove that to a number of meets. The last meet I saw him at, he had a a HJ with a Buick V6. I was was quite interested because I built a HJ Buick V6 for my brother some 15 years earlier. Bobby was having problems getting a strong enough rearend with a decent ratio. He tried a big Kaiser (Dana 44) rearend, but it was too wide. The last I heard, he gave up trying to have the same bolt pattern all around and put in a S10 rearend.

He also had a history with Studebakers. He told me he drove from Enid down to Houston for a job on the Gulf Freeway in a Stude R truck which is about 550 miles and I would bet the truck was just a basic 169 flathead/3 speed. Robby Markmann reminded me that Bobby said he made enough money from the job to buy a new Kaiser.
