1949 Frazer Virginian
« on: June 17, 2018, 09:48:36 PM »
I read where one 1949 Frazer Virginian was made.  Probably gone now, but was the car ever located and accounted for in previous generations?

If you're referring to the '50 Frazer hardtop, it was at the KFOC National in Auburn, IN in 2004.  Nicely restored and owned by Ben Halko for many years.  Ben died a few years later.  The car sold at Hershey in 2012

It is likely still around as it was a top-notch restoration.   It was featured in Hemming's Classic Car magazine circa 2005/2006.  It was not called a Virginian as Kaiser hardtop were.

It is interesting that it has a Kaiser serial number.

There was an article about it in the Winter/Spring 1970 Quarterly.  See attached.

I think that someone made it up with a Frazer parts car but it sure is pretty!  There seems to be no documentation.  Maybe Earl Muntz did it before he started in the truck business!

Ben was the man behind the project as I remember it.  The car was not factory but was made a number of years later from a Kaiser Virginian.  A fairly simple project as the dashboard bolted in, taillights would mount on the Kaiser and the Frazer front cowl would fit on the Virginian body.

Thank you all for adding to this narrative.  The Last Onslaught mentions the car, and Langworth wrote that book when?  Late 1970's??   He states it was a special order car.  The article that Fid notes was written in 1970, so would have been available to Langworth.  The article makes it sound like a factor car, custom ordered.   I am glad it was saved.

The Hemming's article mirrors what we know.  Interesting article.

I remember them showing the car and showing the restoration step by step in a vendor space at Hershey.  Ben used to bring it every year.  Does anyone know where the car is today?
