Anyone know anything about this key blank?
« on: March 14, 2012, 11:10:10 AM »
I saw this on ebay. It has "Je Suis Pret" inscribed on it.

Does anyone know anything about this? I've never seen one before.

That is an aftermarket key made by several manufacturers when they were popular in the 1940's and 1950's.  This one seems a little pricey!  There were several variations of Kaiser keys including gold color but not much made for the Frazers.

Thanks Gordie. I thought it was a nice key... and I too thought it was a bit expensive for a key!

There's a fellow ho lives near me and sets up at hershey every year. He's a professional locksmith and had quite a few of these key blanks for sale at 5 bucks apiece. I bought one or two over the years. I agree...25 bucks is pricey.

Unfortunately there are many K-F owners who are not club members and eBay and Hemmings ads would help you reach these owners.  Your key reproductions are excellent and anyone would be happy to have a set.

Dusty - That includes me! I'd like to have at least one set for the Darrin. Could you please let me know the details so I can order them. Thanks!

Gary.

I've seen the original Kaiser keys, and they are great.  But what did an original Frazer key look like?  I have a 51 Frazer.  It came with two Yale keys, but I thought it might be good to have another spare, just in case.  So far, I have not been able to find a blank that would work.

The way to get yours is $35.00 for 2 sets  $20.00 for 1 set. Send check to Richard Hansen  3325 Houghton Ave Corning Ca 96021  the keys will be in the mail next day. The ad in the monthly kfoci is outdated and should reflect the 2 set pricing,     2 sets as when you bought a new car I have  I have not heard any complaints and i had enough made for everyone that is registered with KFOCI  I'll next run the ad in e-bay   Thanks Richard #3719

The 1951 Frazer ignition and door key was similar to the Kaiser Key but had an "F" instead of the "K" that the Kaiser key used.  When I sold my '51 Frazer a few years ago it still had the original "F" key so the buyer got a bonus!

Kaiser and Henry J keys had the K, Frazer keys had the F.  The keys were lettered for ignition only.

Thanks, guys.  That information is helpful.  So is there a separate key for the doors?  What if my car didn't come with one?

Doors and ignition used the same key. Glove box and trunk used the same key. If yoyur iginition key doesn't fit the door locks then one or the other was swapped or your door locks need lubed (not uncommon).
