Overdrive kickdown switch
« on: March 24, 2012, 10:48:24 AM »
I am installing a new OD wiring harness. My old wiring is missing or bare and broken wires. My
question concerns the kickdown switch wiring. In normal OD mode of driving it looks like the green
and white wires are connected through the switch and when the pedal is depressed to the floor
to disengage the OD, the brown and black wires are connected. Is that correct?

Yes, that's correct. The white wire connects to the TH terminal on the relay, the green goes to the OD lockout switch, the brown runs to the #6 connection on the solenoid and the black runs to the positive side of the coil.

Thanks Joe. It's the members like you who help keep our cars road-able. I must have the 4:55 rear
end because without the OD working the engine screams at 55 mph.

I would advise being careful when taking the wires off. If there's corrosion on the screws, turning them may actually rip the contacts  out of the bakelite. I find it's best to hold the terminals with a pliers and the turn the screw so the force goes agains the terminal itself instead of the bakelite that it's mounted in.

FID: I had one screw start to do just what you said until I held it with a long nose pliers to give
support to the screw mount. All four screws were corroded, so I used "blaster" on them and let
them soak. Finally all four screws came loose.
