1948 Parts Help Needed
« on: November 30, 2009, 10:18:14 PM »
I am looking for help finding some various parts for a 1948 Kaiser Special. Front and rear window rubber and a cable for the hood release at the moment, I'm sure there will be more though.

This is a special project that my dad, myself and my son are taking on as this car was purchased new by my dad's grandfather. In 1969 it was sold to a neighbor for $25.00 and it was parked behind his barn until Sept. 2005 when it returned home. It was pushed into the shop last weekend and disassembly has begun. The odometer shows 53,000 miles on it, the engine still turns as well as the water pump and generator. Putting a battery in it revealed that the lights still work and the starter spun but wouldn't engage. Removing the heater hoses today revealed the engine still has anti-freeze in it!!!

There should be little problem finding what you need for the 1948 as 1947 parts are the same for what you seek.  Check the parts book and advertise in the KFOCI BULLETIN for items by part number.

Remember that there are people who have various items and don't know what they fit...the only marking is the part number on the box or a tag attached to the item.  Parts vendors in the club also tend to go by part number.

You may find a KF parts manual of help in looking for parts, not only for parts numbers but also for the diagrams. These frequently show up on ebay. I have the shop manual that covers 47-49 models on CD available. Details can be found at my site: http://www.kfnut.com

Original hood cables are very difficult to find but a universal cable will work.  It just won't have the correct knob.

you can take the orig handle and in a vise on a drill press  drill and tapp a hole to accomadate the cable in the back and on the bottom of the handle tap and install two #5/64 hex head set screws.  this way your handle is orig looking and useful. i would like feed back if this would cost points at the show.

It up to the judge at this point, as there is nothing in writing to identify correct vs. not correct...in fact there has been nothing in writing at all since the club was formed.

There are not any judges that I have seen who would be looking at how the hood release handle is attached.
