Drove the Manhattan over to the Deep South Region AACA show in Mobile last Sat. Was longest "trip" with car...took the big road (I-10) over and back... Very nice show, not a lot of cars, but some nice ones...really nice 56 Desoto convertible with Hemi and pushbutton... Seems he didn't want to be judged, so sort of by default, I got best in post war, 46-59 class, and best of show post war... giant trophy for that one...
Came home, yet trip took over 2 hours due to wreck at Al-Fl border. Sat over an hour, moving a few feet at time. Got home and had grease over the wide white wall on right rear.
Sunday, took the wheel off, expecting to have to do wheel seals. Found the source of grease was under the big nut where flange is held. Nothing on shoes, so seal might be ok. Took the nut off. Found about half the threads on axle were missing or messed up. Haven't pulled the flange/axle yet, so don't know dimensions, spline count, but want to find good part to go back.
Looking at web/data, car is 3 spd od, assuming a 4.55 Dana 44 rear, so, expect all is "stock". Need the right rear axle, big nut, possibly the flange and key (won't know on those til off). Found several items for Jeeps, some 10 splines, some 19, length 21.5"...not sure if they will work or not. Also found an axle for 59 2wd Jeep wagon..think it's a bit longer.
Any ideas, leads, parts would be appreciated.
Attaching pictures of trophy... Next year will the 50th aniv. for that club...well worth a visit to their site...about 2 acres with club house, just north of a big park with the Mobile Muesum of Art and Botanical Gardens. Of course Mobile has Bellingrath Gardens, the Battleship "Alabama", and much more to see...close to Gulf Shores, and Pensacola, Fl (home) with NAS Pensacola, Naval Air Museum, and white sand beaches... great stuff to see!
Any help on pieces, would be appreciated.
