Best of Show, one for the books!!!
« on: March 18, 2017, 09:06:42 PM »
I attended the John Bosco High School car show and Father/Son Breakfast.   There were over 100 cars, over half where Low-Riders.   I talked with over a dozen father/son combos over the course of the morning, explaining all the stories that go with the additions to the cars along with giving a brief Bio on Henry John Kaiser and a briefer mention of Joseph W. Frazer and Howard A. "Dutch" Darrin.  Evidently, they like my presentation well enough to not only award my Kaiser Traveler with Best Classic but honored my car with "Best of Show".   I was floored.   Many thanked me for bringing my car and sharing Kaiser's story.   People don't see many of them but when they do, they are amazed and many things Kaiser!!!!!

Two more pictures in the next post on what I added to my car because of the six picture limit.

I purchased a National Kaiser/Frazer Plaque and colored it.

I also built an extension that fills the space between the car and the tail gate similar to the ones used in the 49-50 travelers.   I still need to paint the board blue like my car so it matches.   It was tough finding the correct stain for the wood!!

Do you think Ralph Nader had anything to do with the demise of the KF cars?

In the books I have read on the involved subjects, Joe Frazer told Henry J. Kaiser to cut back production in 1949 because that is when the Big 3 came out with their new post-war models.   Kaiser would not listen and overproduced, using up much needed capitol.  The second "mistake" Kaiser made was not producing the V-8 (which most buyers wanted) and going with the Henry J, which was 20 years ahead of it's time.

Well, it happened again.   I attended the Garden Grove's Old Town Main Street Car show tonight and they were really impressed with my presentation story of the era (Parking Meter, Swamp Cooler Air, Drive-in Tray, Drive-in Speakers and Canvas Bag) as well as my Kaiser.   Then I told the judges all about Henry J. Kaiser and they were even more impressed.   They awarded me with "Best of Show"!!!!

I am attending Donut Derelicts tomorrow morning and will leave for the Nationals on Sunday Morning.   Check it out!!!
