« on: June 16, 2017, 11:46:26 PM »
Hello, I just purchased a 51 Deluxe and joined the form. I'm very psyched to be here and begin this project.Does anyone have the specifications of the 51 Deluxe? I'm going to begin a restoration.

Unless your fuel tank has major holes or is badly damaged, I would have it professionally cleaned and sealed. There's a company called Gas Tank Renu...I've used them for both radiator and gas tank repair with much success. The company has locations in most states - https://www.gastankrenu.com/

Brake parts can be found here - kfparts.com.

I'm in search for trunk hinges and a gas tank. Does anybody have either or know anybody that does?
Why does the charge meter show not charging when my DVOM shows 5.56 V.

Your voltage regulator should allow 7.3 volts at high idle with no accessories turned on. If you're only seeing 5 volts, then chances are it isn't working. Check all connections to be sure none are corroded. If the cover on the regulator can be removed, you can also dress the contacts...sometimes they corrode or get sticky. Do this with the battery disconnected.

A fuel tank recently appeared on ebay, good trunk hinges are harder to find. If you're a club member, place a want ad in the bulletin.

Isn't there something about polarizing? What is the procedure?

To polarize a regulator, use a piece of scrap 14 or 16 gauge wire. Touch one end to the armature ("A") post on the regulator and BRIEFLY touch the other end to the battery ("B") post on the regulator - only long enough to cause a spark. The regulator is now polarized.

You're polarizing the generator, not the regulator.  By briefly connecting the armature to battery hot the generator armature is magnetized to the correct north-south polarity, so when the generator rotates, it produces the correct polarity voltage.

Does anybody know what to use for the trunk and door rubbers. The gaskets that fit into the body panels and go all the way around each opening.
