Darrin Parts Fitted
« on: January 31, 2018, 01:29:29 PM »
I fitted the tail lights, license plate bracket and license plate light.    I made new hold down brackets (that I misplaced) that I still have to trim.   I was able to purchase new Hold Down Bolt assembly's one of the few times these came up on EBay.  Once I trim the new brackets, it's on to the doors.

I am installing "T"-nuts anywhere I can.   I will do so with the door brackets.   Pictures will follow.

I seem to be missing the door stops, the bracket and bumper that prevents the door from opening too far, any pictures of what they look like???    I have so many parts in bags scattered around the garage,  I need to see what they look like, if I can't find them, I will have to make new ones.

the license plate light base looks strange.

Where did it come from?

Here are some pics.
They are a little blurry (kind of dark in there) but I think you can see what they look like. Basically a small L bracket with a rubber bumper bolted on.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the pictures Lee.  It's just what I needed.

The reason the license light looks strange is that it is an LED.   I didn't put the cover on, so it is really easy to see that this is not a "Bulb".    I don't know about the rest of it.   It is just brass parts I picked up (there are none left) with door handles, K's (for the Medallion), hinges,  and hold down caps w/o the studs, that's why I bought the one's you put up on ebay.

I have thought about making all the bulbs LED's but I fear the turn signals won't work because the LED's wouldn't draw enough current for the flasher to work properly.   They have replacement bulbs that fit into the sockets, however. most of them are 12v.

Progress is good!

McMaster-Carr has a large variety of sizes of rubber bumpers with metal washers molded in the base, and in different durometer (firmness). I was able to find exact replacements for the dry rotted pedal rebound bumpers in my Aero. Had to buy a bag though, maybe 10 bucks.

Mark,

I have two different pedal bumpers and I only have one of each.   I need another one of each.  What did yours look like???

Domes with a metal insert. Your best bet might be to buy the material and use those as patterns to cut new ones.

Ok, I had the time to take out my Darrin Door Stop which I didn't do before the re-fiberglass of the bottom of the car, so I had to cut through the added layers.   Not easy to get at from inside the fender where the door fits!!!

MarkH, here is what my bumper stop looks like with dimensions.   Will yours fit?  Do you have extras if they do?

If not, could you supply a part number from McMasters.

That looks really close. I'll be in my shop tomorrow, get the extras out & let you know better specs. If my extras don't work I'm sure McMasters has something that will.

Here's some dimensions. A #10 panhead screw fits down the hole.
They come in bags of 10, I've got 4 extras.  McMaster-Carr #9540k879, there's a variety of others sizes height, width & screw hole.
