Kaiser Prototype
« on: July 01, 2018, 09:40:17 AM »
just found this online

anybody know of this car?
AND I QUOTE...

"I am about to purchase a 1956 prototype car designed by Dutch Darrin. It is 100% fiberglass. As a collector of antique cars, I normally do most of the work myself. I have never owned a fiberglass-bodied car like a Corvette. I posted in the C1 & 2 forum as I was hoping some here had the same idea of originality.

There are a couple of factors that I need to address. I am not looking at a base coat clear coat. This car is rare and I would like it to be painted in "of the era" type paint. With that said here are my questions.

The color of the body will be "yellow satin" that is found on a Kaiser Darrin."

I think I know of the car. A fiberglass creation appeared at Hershey several years ago and the owner claimed it was Darrin built - probably because it was built on a Henry J chassis with a six cylinder engine. The body looked like a cross between a 58 T-Bird and the Batmobile. It was well done but needed restored. The owner was adamant that it was a Darrin creation but look of the body did not resemble anything Dutch ever did. I don't recall the asking price other than it was more than anyone was willing to pay as it went home with the seller.

I might have a hard copy photo somewhere...

Without pictures, nobody can tell anything about it.

Here's a picture of the car I was referring to. The seller called it a "Darrin Futura" and wanted $5000 for it when I last saw it at least 15 years ago.

And, of course, Apple's I-Phone picture program and simple machines don't get along so you'll have to get creative when looking at the pix.

That would have been a great looking car for it's time.

Those square headlights kind of puts the time frame in the late seventies or even eighties.  That has a definite T-bird look to it and Darrin was not known for copying anyone else's styling.  It certainly is an interesting car though but with a Henry J frame and drive train?

A number of years ago there was a "Darrin Prorotype" on eBay with asking price of $450,000.  It turned out to be a fiberglass body that was paired with a 6 cylinder Henry J chassis.  When the seller was informed that the car was not the prototype of the Kaiser-Darrin it suddenly became the Prototype 1947 Darrin automobile (which was dimensioned off the 1947 Kaiser & Frazer automobile).  When the seller was informed that what is had was an oddball collection of "stuff" and was finally convinced of it, the car disappeared into the woodwork.  I wonder if this is that resurfacing?

Asking price was $450,000? Is that maybe a mis-type?

Hi Guys....the car is actually called a "Kutzler Futura" and I'm friends with the family that built them.  See attached.

Terry....do you know how I can reach the person who has it?  I can put them in touch with the Kutzler family.

Thanks
