Engine back in, looking for Carb rebuilder
« on: December 15, 2018, 01:10:03 AM »
My engine is complete and back in, still hooking up everything. Fuel pump is off being freshened up and Carburetor is in need of some clean-up. Someone listed a place that they were very happy with for carb rebuilding but I can not find they post, does anyone know who it was and how to contact?

Thanks,
Warren

They rebuilt the carb for my Darrin and it made all the difference. No more flooding, easier cold starts and I've noticed better gas mileage. I'm dropping off my Henry J carb next week.

A lot of the flooding problems are caused by the fuel pump putting out to much pressure. I have found that about 2 or 3 lbs is all the needle and seat can take. so if you are having problems check the fuel pressure. Holley makes a small fuel pressure regulator that will connect to the fuel pump.
Also most of the carbs had a needle with a spring that the rebuild kits do not have so use the original needle and seat if you can.

It's always a nice feeling as you hit certain major steps.   This is one more major step to another Darrin getting back on the road for all to enjoy this fabulous automobile!!

Another quick question. My drivetrain has been out for going on 2 years so I don't remember, is the transmission just cantilevered off the back of the bellhousing. I have what I believe is a skidplate that mounts near the end of the transmission but nothing that supports the aft end of the transmission. Looks scary.

I got a lot of good information and sources over the last couple of years while rebuilding my engine in the Darrin. I wonder if we can get a "wiki" section, with separate grouping for each make and model with info like this as well as good sources for hard to find parts and services. For example, I was looking for a "good" source for fuel pump rebuild and carburetor rebuild. I was able to get good recommendations from people on the forum but I would be nice to have a place to collect this information in one place. Sad to say it would also be nice to include warnings about sources.

Beyond the two transmission to cross member mounts, there's nothing else supporting the transmission. The skid plate mounts as shown in the attached picture.

i am sending my carb out today to be rebuilt, I would like to take it out but a bit too far for a quick run. I am about a hour west of DC. I like going to Canfield swap meet out your way, at least twice a year.

Next time you’re out our way, let us know.

Regarding issues with shipping carbs or fuel pumps to be rebuilt...as long as they are not dripping or filled, I’ve had no problems. I just drain it, cleaned with carb cleaner and degreaser...double boxed and off they went.

Noah
