Carpet/Mirror Questions
« on: March 28, 2020, 02:43:17 PM »
I've had my '53 for over a year now, and it's time to get started working on it.
I'm pretty sure that the door mirrors are not OEM and I'm damn sure that the carpet isn't!
Did the car come with carpet or a mat? Is there a reproduction available?
Did the car come with door mirrors? Most of the pictures that I've see say no.
Thanks!
Larry

Henry J's originally came with rubber mats and they are available from the club.  There were no specific outside mirrors made for the Henry J but any of the mirrors sold as an accessory for the full size Kaisers would be proper and will fit the Henry J.  That is a nice looking car and you may want to look for some                                        proper wheel covers as yours look like aftermarket items.  Four Cylinder Henry j's originally had the small hub caps and the six cylinders used wheel covers and they are frequently found with our vendors or on eBay.

The car came with one wheel cover missing, and the odd one that you see in the picture. I now have all four correct wheel covers.
Those and the acrylic tri-wing hood ornament insert were my first restoration pieces.
Thanks for the info on the mat, I looked right over it on the order form.

The Henry J Barbara & I have had the reproduction mats front and rear when we got it.  I've noted a slight fit issue on passenger side front but that could reflect how it was installed by a previous owner.  I've attached a picture showing the front mat installed towards the passenger side.

Anything is better than the ugly green indoor/outdoor carpet my car now has.  ::)
I just hope that there are no surprises underneath!
