1951 1952 Kaiser Manhattan fuel gauge wanted
« on: July 14, 2024, 03:01:54 AM »
Anyone have a new old stock fuel gage for sale ? I have the silver gauge cluster , fuel gauge has a light gray background. Thanks.
I would take a good working used gauge.

Suggest you contact Larry Barker, AZ who's in the club (current President and huge KF parts vendor).  You may want to list the make and model of your car as well as the original KF Part Number from the appropriate KF Parts List to ensure a match.

I have contacted Larry but no response.
The gauge cluster is silver but is in a 54 Manhattan that was factory black
I believe the silver cluster was originally for 51 and 52 models.

Are you sure the gauge is at fault? They rarely go bad.

That said, I might have a used unit. I'll check

When tank is full gauge will read half then almost immediately go to empty.

I have to concur with JoeFrazer that problems such as you describe are almost always the sending unit.  I had that happen in my Allstate - you'd fill it with gas and the gauge would read empty.  Drive for awhile and the gauge would go to half full.  Keep driving and it goes empty very quickly. Replaced the sending unit and that fixed it.  Had similar problems with my other cars.  It was always the sender, never the gauge itself.  But of course, with anything 70 years old, it could be the gauge but check the sending unit first.  Best of luck and keep us informed.

Thanks to all for your helpful information.
Actually, the tank sending unit is only a year old. Guess it could be defective.
Gauge wouldn't register with old unit either so it was changed out.
