How many Frazers were produced?
« on: July 26, 2012, 09:20:01 PM »
I have recently started going to local shows ( when vapor locks allow ) and have gotten great reception and curious lookers at the car. I was asked a couple of times how many Frazers were produced. I think a number that I came up with from reading various historical articles is about 150,000. But I dont know for sure. Anyone know this number?

How many are still on the road? So far in the local shows I have been the only Frazer Manhattans.

Aside from the vapor lock problem I love the car. Speaking of vapor lock - why would one install a switch  to turn the electric pump on and off rather than leaving the pump on whenever the car is running?

According to Last Onslaught On Detroit, breakdown is as follows:
1947 - 68,775
1948 - 48,071
1949 - 24,923 (includes 1950)
1951 - 10,214

For a total of  151,983 so you're very close.

The member designations, Jr. Member, Newbie, Hero Member etc are based on the number of posts you have on the forum. I don't remember how many you need for each rank but it took most of us years to get to Hero Member.

Specific counts by model year (series and model) are found in KFOCI HANDBOOK version 4.0.  Month-by-month counts are in version 5.0 which will be released sometime in the future.

The problem with breaking out 1949 and 1950 model year cars is that field stocks of new, untitled, unsold 1949 model year cars were re-tagged as 1950 model year vehicles and so far, no lists of what was re-tagged have surfaced.  Volume 4.0 and BUILT TO BETTER THE BEST shows specific counts for those Kaiser and Frazer cars built during the actual 1950 model year (November 4, 1949 through March 15, 1950).

Yes it does have that information. If you've joined the club you'll receive a copy and you won't be disappointed! I browse through mine all the time and really appreciate the work that went into it. You will too.

It isn't an actual handbook, it is a CD. I didn't get one for quite awhile, but finally called and they sent me one.

At last check, Mike Neubecker had around 200 copies left of 4.0.  Currently, a CD goes out as part of each new member package.

Anyone with good contacts in the Netherlands (Holland) and wants to do some interesting research, I can give you the name of the coachbuilder who took K-F products to produce ambulances, regular type station wagons and even herses for use in Europe.  I say this because there was one 1949 Frazer chassis sold overseas as a body builder;  good chance it went to these people.  They also made a 1949 2-door Kaiser Convertible (pictures in DEALER NEWS).
