54 Engine Paint
« on: September 27, 2013, 12:50:20 PM »
Seeking input on what others may have used. Understand spraying is the better way to go to get best/smoothest results and that MG Maroon is a great match.  What have others used and where did you buy it?

All suggestions welcome!

I used Duplicolor's Dark Canyon Red on my 54 engine and it's held up well. Several light coats and letting it dry completely before handling...I gave it 2 days...worked. I bought the paint at Autozone. It's not high heat paint but it has never peeled or flaked. Of course, I did not paint the exhaust manifold.

Attached is a picture taken when I installed the new engine a year or so ago. The supercharger has it's original paint so you can see how close it matches.

I rode around New Orleans in that beast at the 1990 National.  Fun ride.
