'51 Frazer brake pedal push rod
« on: September 25, 2009, 01:20:12 PM »
The push rod leading into the Master Cylinder on my '51 hardtop got bent apparently during trailering to/from the shop.  I cannot determine how to remove it as the short rod that it swivels on was installed somehow from the inside out which means it is butted right up against the frame of the car.  There is a hole through the end, for a cotter key I suppose but that wasn't there and since it cannot come out anyway being up against the frame, I don't see how to remove it for straightening.

OK, future reference IF anyone else needs to remove the brake pedal master cylinder rod. Since the pin is installed against the frame and there is virtually no access for a cutoff tool, you take a Dremel tool and put a grinding stone in it.  Then you work for about an hour to grind the head off the pin.  Then you beat on the fork the pin inserts into it and if you are lucky it will come loose.  Then head to a hardware store, acquire a new insert pin and install it in from the outside side so if you ever need to access it again, you'll be ab le to. A cotter key retains it from moving anywhere.

Always have to find the work-arounds.  Could not get along w/o a Dremel tool.

But even with the cleavis pin reversed, it's still absurdly tight and to eliminate interference the fork has to be grinded down some or the frame member of the car filed down a little.

The car moves and the car stops now. Success at last.
