Kaiser head liners
« on: April 22, 2015, 03:56:01 PM »
I just received my 1953 -2 dr. head liner from SMS all sewed and marked for an upholsterer or experienced installer. The color is factory correct, the Boucle material is a little heavier than what i removed, the Listing sewed to the liner for the bows is heavier material so should outlast the one removed by years. (The car was sitting in a garage in Oakland Ca. since 1961.) It took a while to get the liner but is so good I'll never do one myself again, I'll sell my commercial machine.

Not to get into your drawers, but how much?
Did you cost compare to a local shop?

Dusty ,
This is Good if a little heavier. That was My next question is it dyed ?
I looked at a1955 Kaiser & the pattern was lite. It looked like the roller might of been worn. So I thought it would be like a coin at
the mint .  Then if dye to thick makes it look thin.

GB. the embossing is a little light but it is what it is. It is Boucle in the true sense of the word. The original material that was supplied to the factory was embossed then sent out to be rebonded to a light canvas and re shot with an across the grain gun giving it the real rough texture. what SMS has is the original roller/embossers and is pressing the boucle pattern and inking with government non VOC ink. theCHROME  INK IS OUTLAWED !!  i LIVED NEXT DOOR TO A FACTORY REP IN THE LATE 50'S AND SAW WHAT THE BAMBOO AND BOUCLE WAS IN TEXTURE AND THINESS. tHW STUFF WAS (wallpaper) His house was papered in the thin stuff like vinyl wall covering today by the same company that bought out L.E. Carpenter "Vicortex" the color is GRAY

I Don't know for certain, I havn;t needed the material for the 54 that is coming up. I believe GB Bonham has gotten material for Dragon Headliners somewhere it is the same I believe it is called (PIN CRUSH PATTERN) THE OTHER "BOUCLE " IS THE SAME AS THE HEADLINERS IN 53-54's
