Engine & transmission removal - installation

This is a simple question for experienced guys who have done the job before...

If the engine and transmission have to be removed from a 51-54 Kaiser, is it easier to remove both together and split them up once out of the car or remove the engine first by itself followed by the tranny ?  ???

Job to be done without a lift...

Generally speaking it is easier to remove both as one unit. The hydramatic is bolted to the flywheel and there's a large, thin gasket in between that can be very difficult to get into place if the transmission is still in the car. Been there and done that.

also if it is an a hydra-matic you cant even take the flywheel cover off with the cross member in place

been there tryed it
1953 traveler (long gone)

WHEN REMOVING THE MOTOR AND TRANS , THE BOOK STATED TURN THE TNGINE ONE SIDE OR THE OTHER BUT FAILS TO EXPLAIN WHY. Well it is correct to a point you must also turn the steering gear the oposite way to clear the center point tie rod and its best to remove the drag link from the centerpoint.
