1953 Dragon emblem
« on: April 13, 2010, 02:02:08 PM »
What are my chances of finding the gold "built expressly for" glove box emblem that came with 53 Dragons and installed by the original owner after engraving their name?

Stroker70,

If you have no luck finding a gold "built expressly for" glove box emblem that came with 53 Dragons let me know.

I may know of a way that a reproduction can be made.

I would be very interested in this.  On my Dragon I have the gold plaque on the glove box (where the "K" goes on other Kaisers), but it looks like someone pulled out the "built expressly for ..." piece, as there are two holes that it looks like it would have hooked into.  If reproductions are done, I would buy one with my own name.

Just so I can get an idea if this project would be cost effective, what kind of price would you pay for this item?

It would be possible to have it engraved with anything you would require.

If I recall correctly these were gold plated. The company I use to get my chrome done does gold.

I like to give an update to all interested in a reproduction "built expressly for ..."

I have borrowed an orginal "built expressly for ..." to make molds/tooling.

I am using the lost wax investment process. I have made a mold to make the wax pattern. I even have pour my first unit. I am doing it in magnesium bronze. This material when polish, it looks just like gold plate. When we poured our first unit it did not go well.We had problems heating up the mag/bronze so it cast with pin holes. We will pour again this coming Friday. We should have better luck. I have sourced the speed nut, drive mails, and nameplate. Nameplate will be supplied un-engrave so you can add your own name if you wish. My price so far looks to be around $100.00 each.

I actually already have the "built expressly for" part, but the owner must have taken the nameplate off.  Since I don't have it, I would like to see a nameplate (if anyone has one) so I would know what kind of script to use.  Would you just have a jeweller do the name engraving?
