VIN Plate Reproduction

Is there anyone out there that reproduces vintage VIN Tags?

Lee,  check with A.G. Backeast (yes that's the business name!), www.datatags.com.

Several years back, I had them reverse stamp (stamp from the back) one of Rudy's reproduction engine ID tags.  Wasn't cheap but came out perfect and looked exactly like the original...very happy and they were easy to deal with.

They're in Colorado.  Maybe others have had dealings with them?

I have told the story here several times but basically I lost both tags on my car when the body shop closed it's doors as my car was being finished. If I wanted to have this company reproduce them, how would that work with nothing for them to reproduce from?

Kory, give them a call and discuss.  They've been doing this for a long time and doubt if missing plates is a new problem.  Let us know what you find out.  A model/template is in the KFOCI Handbook or another member can probably supply photos but you'll need to know the numbers from your car for them to replicate. Is it in the registry?  Do you have photos of the plates?

I am going to contact them Monday and I will get the information I also have the small tags for them to replicate. I will post when I get the information.

My Aero trim/paint body tag was triple stamped . AG Backeast had that style & did a good job. Smooth black paint instead of "stippled" but extremely close to OEM.

There's a guy from the Netherlands on ebay with Aero door post serial # tags with correct etched & smooth surfaces and look like perfect OEM tags.
Also has a variety of other Jeep/Willys tags, not sure about KF tags. Much cheaper than AG Backeast. His ebay name is something like dataplates.

I have contacted both AG Backeast and Dataplates 4 U about the Darrin data plate.

AG Backeast will do the large plate for $325.00 plus shipping ? made from aluminium. They were originally Zinc. they are in Colorado.

Data plates 4 U will do the large plate for $145.00 plus $20.00 shipping made of stainless steel.
They are in the Netherlands.

I do not know the quality of either company.

I have put in the pictures of the tag i am talking about.

Mbfleming, I guess I should've clarified. That's what I'm trying to figure out is how I know what info would've been on each tag. Never thought to take pics cuz I didn't even know the shop was gonna remove them to paint. I know the exterior color, according to my dad is supposed to be called sportsman beige. And the interior is the same interior I've seen on the vast majority of 48' that I've ever seen.

If the Darrins data plates have Willys Motors on the data plates instead of Kaiser-Willys wouldn't they really be a Willys Darrin?  I realize that they were advertised by Kaiser rather than Willys but why would the data plates have Willys Motors if they were indeed made in a Kaiser plant and have a Willys engine?
