Water pump fitting
« on: September 28, 2010, 10:29:04 PM »
So I just got the water pump back from being rebuilt and it looks great.  One problem, I am missing the fitting that screws into the top of the pump and goes to a heater hose.  Can anyone tell me what the fitting looks like (90 degree elbow, hose barb, etc.)  and what type of material it is made from?  Also, does anyone know what thread size it is?  This is all I need aside from radiator hoses to get the Kaiser complete enough to take it for a test drive!  Thanks in advance for the help.

Lisa, I will go to my barn tomorrow and take a fitting out if no one gives you an answer before then.

Thanks!  I will hang loose until I hear from you.  I am guessing that it was not easily removed from the pump and maybe got mangled in the process.

The fitting is about 3" long and looks to be 3/8s pipe going into the water pump is a larger hex nut type fitting that accepts the pipe fitting coming along the top of the block ( actually the head ) from the heater core box on the top end. The top hex looks to be female 3/4 pipe for the end of the tube fitting. Have a picture if I can get loaded, may try to e-mail it. You may want to contact the people that did the water pump rebuild as it does not look like something that should have been destroyed in the rebuild process. The 51 Business Coupe's water pump is leaking and will have to come off and be rebuilt. That's the picture, hope it is the same for your car.

Thanks for the description, I'll try to build that this afternoon.  I sent my water pump to Kaiser Willys for the rebuild.  It sounds like they send them out to another place so they might be able to rebuild other model years as well.  It was $99.99 but it looks like new!
