LOCATION OF VIN?

Hi All,

It's been a long time since I was on this Forum as I sold my '53 Manhattan back in 2004.  Happy to see it's still running.  I'm still a member of the K-F Club and maybe someday I'll get another '53.  I really loved that car and only sold it because I lost my storage spot.

Anyway, the car now resides near Santa Barbara, CA and the buyer enjoys it as much as I did but he called me recently asking about the location of the VIN number on the car.  I can't remember any more but I have a record of it being "V5448881692S663".  I thought it might be on the firewall plaque or the driver's side door frame but he says he can't find it anywhere.  I'd appreciate some help.

Inside driver's door frame, between the door hinges just below the courtesy light switch. A 1953 Manhattan will begin with K532

Depending on the state the car is titled in, the VIN number will either be the engine number (tag on the engine block-see pictures in the KFOCI HANDBOOK CD) or the car serial number (the door post tag that starts with "K" for Kaiser and the last two digits of the model year (50, 53, etc) and a digit for the model (in your case the prefix is K532) followed by the serial number. 

The number you have listed in your posting makes no sense at all for a stock K-F product...does the car have the original type drive train in it or did you change the engine?  What you list appears to be either a Title Number or a VIN from a much, MUCH newer car.

Your vin number should be 11 digits long for this year.  I hope that might help out a little.

The VIN number for a 1953 Kaiser is EITHER engine number (7digits with a KL226 prefix optional) or door post serial number (which would be 7 digits begining with "0"'s, 4 additional characters if the K532 prefix was used).  How do you determine 11 numbers?

Hi Jack, glad to see your back, In Arizona we just use the vehicle ID off of the firewall tag.  I counted the digits off of my registration and it was eleven.  I hope that doesn't mess anyone up.  Thanks again for the info.
