Darrin Heater color

I am redoing the heater in my Darrin. It is I believe the same heater used in the Henry J.  (Ivory diverter knob, round paper K logo in the middle)The current color (car restored in the 70's) is a dark solid color silver. Was that the original color, or was it a hammer finish as you see with some 50's heaters? Thanks for any input.

  If memory serves me correctly the one in my 51 was a medium gray color,plain paint. But I must admit when I was looking over there it was to check out the girls legs.
