'47 Frazer

I am looking at a '47 Frazer and was wondering if there were running changes during the '47 build. It has Frazer lettered hubcaps - Frazer name on the door sills - and hood prop. Sorry, I don't have a s/n yet. Does any of this info help determine whether it is an early or late build. Thanks for any information.

It is a very early car.

KFOCI HANDBOOK VERSION 4.0 lists the serial number cut points for all the major changes made (name on sill plates, trunk handles, door handles, instrumentation, etc) made during the 1947 Frazer model run.  Generally speaking, a 1947 Frazer with Frazer hubcaps, Frazer lettering on the sill plates and rear mounted fuel pump were common to Graham-Paige tagged Frazers and early K-F tagged Frazers.

What is the door post serial number and the body serial number on the plate attached to passenger side firewall area?

There were many running changes to the Graham Paige Frazer's but the features you mention were common to early and late cars and the hood props even ran up to the early Manhattans.  The body and serial numbers will tell how early your car is.  The lower the numbers the more desirable the car is.

According to factory parts information, the last Frazer factory equipped with "frazer" on the sill plates was S/N 9653;

I did get the s/n and id plate info for the '47 Frazer. (Graham-Paige) (s/n F47-002341 body number 2367) It is listed in the registry - Campbell from Iowa.

That is a very early car.  If it still has all of the early features it would be a very desirable car to have.

Serial numbers on this model started at 1001; that makes the car the 1,341th Frazer off the line.  It would have come off the line in October 1946, the same month as Gerry Laurin's Kaiser Special (the oldest known KAISER brand car on the road and restored).  Get this on the road and fixed up, it might be the oldest known FRAZER brand car on the road and restored.  I do know of a couple older cars around but they are not roadable as far as I am aware.

Thanks to everyone for their help so far.
The '47 has bumpers with 4 guards front and rear. It is my understanding the correct bumpers are 2 guard style. Are the  bumpers the same for both with just the extra guards added?
What options would be correct? It has a radio, spotlight, and fog lights.
The shifter and turn signal lever have round knobs.
It also has the trim on the rocker panels. Maybe added later?  I thought the early units had no rocker trim.
Also, the engine (primer painted) has a front fuel pump. I assume it has had an engine update. How difficult is it to find an original engine?

Can you send pictures of what Spotlight and/or Fog Lights that are on it?

If I recall correctly that Spotlights and/or Foglights where not available when the first '47 were available. They came later in the production year. They could have been added later and would need to be the 'early' KF Spotlight (Unity USA Model S5 or S6). The Foglight is the same in that the first foglights were different than the ones that you most often see on KF products (Unity Model H1).


If you provide some pictures I can tell you if you are way off or close at least for the given year of the car.

Right or wrong I purchased the '47. Big project but saving a bit of history.
If anyone can contribute information or has any comments after viewing the pictures please contact me. (or post on the forum)
I'm sure I will have more questions once it is in my possesion
(It appears to be painted Linden Green but the paint code is 304) (turf green?)

Well I can tell you that the Outside Sunvisor is wrong. It is a Fulton type and was not what KF offered in 1947. The correct one is actually made of plastic. Bob Jordan has the correct one on his Vagabond. I have pics of it if you want to see what it looks like.

The current posted pics are not good enough to evaulate the Spotlight nor the Foglights. What I can see of them, it looks as though they could be right for late 1947.

Part number 100054 was first offered in March of 1948 thru parts and accessories bulletin number 70. An attached flyer shows a one piece unit that appears to be metal, rather than plastic as it has a stainless leading edge.
Either way, your Fulton visor will work and is accepted in KFOCI judging...it's just more correct for the 51 Kaiser or Frazer. So, I wouldn't be so quick to get rid of it!

Also, I think the hood should have 2 props.

You have a nice find there! Very few early Frazers have survived as intact as this car. It is definitely worth preserving.

Indeed this looks like a very good car--very neat find!  Am I correct in noticing an absence of vertical slats in the grill?  I was under the impression that this type of grill was only installed in prototypes.  Is this a Graham-paige feature only, or did it continue into the KF Frazers as well?
