Door handles
« on: April 06, 2011, 09:31:54 PM »
I started cleaning my 49 Traveler and i have not been able to get the passanger doors open. I was able to remove the door panel on the front door and was able to lubricate everything and got it open. my question is  is there an adjustment for the door handle. It doesn't go far enough to engage the latch.  I took the handle off the drivers door to look and now I can't open either front door. any help appreciated.

The latch mechanism has an arm on it that contacts the door handle and when pulled, the handle pushes the arm and releases the latch. What's probably happened is that the arm has gotten bent and that's not allowing the handle to fully make contact. Remove the exterior handle, there's one screw that's probably behind the door gasket, and try tripping the latch using a socket extention...you can also just reach in with a finger to trip it. If that works, then the latch needs adjusted...probably by just bending the latch arm up towards the handle opening. Be careful as to how far you bend it, too much and the latch will trip with the slightest pressure...and you don't want that!

Door Handle Tumbler Removal
« Reply #3 on: October 09, 2018, 09:40:08 AM »
I have an old front door handle for a 47 Kaiser.  The handle spring is missing and the tumbler needs to be removed as an old key is lodged inside.  Does anyone have some photos or instructions on how to dis-assemble the entire handle and remove / replace the tumbler please?
