Restarting my Henry-J after 15 years
« on: October 01, 2011, 09:36:39 PM »
I have what will sound like a dumb question. Is the Henry-J a positive ground or a negative ground car? The reason I'm questioning this that when I started to connect the new battery (the old one is gone) the battery wire coming from the block was the smaller one which fits the positive terminal and the wire coming from the starter was the larger one which fits the negative terminal. The shop manual that I had when I parked the car is also gone. Thanks, Bob

6 volt positive ground. Make sure you have LARGE cables!! Do NOT use cables the size of 12 volt systems. 00 is good <g> A tractor place can make them up for you.

Where can I buy a shop manual for my 1953 Henry-J? I'd be happy with a copy of one (better than nothing).

The manual you want is the 1951-1952-1953 edition.  Besides showing up from time to time on eBay, they show up for sale in the FOR SALE area of the KFOCI MONTHLY BULLETIN.  Club members can also run an ad in the wanted area of the bulletin at no charge.

The manual was reproduced by somebody years ago & copies are also circulating through literature vendors on the internet.  The copy says Kaiser-Frazer Export Corporation on the cover; the originals are slightly larger and do not.

You should also have the Green 1951 Henry J Illustrated Parts List with the 1953 supplemtent covering the 1952 and 1953 model years.

I've never received a monthly bulletin. I also have trouble getting full access to this site even though I'm a member. Oh well.
How do I get KFOCI to start sending me the bulletin?

Contact Barbara!  It can take a while for the first one to arrive when you become a member. In the meantime, Barbara could probably send you email versions (in full colour :D)
