Speedometer jumps

I noticed I just went to 49,000 miles on my 53 manhattan. While I also noticed the speedometer started jumping all over the place, not always but sporatically. Do I need to pull the core out of the cable and grease it, or do I put some kind of graphit in it? What expeirence do any of you have on this? thanks in advance, Ron... AKA Orphanauto.

I remember greasing the cable on my '48 Frazer took care of this issue once.

I had the same problem and removed the cable from the speedometer housing and used liquid graphite.  It worked really well.

This issue was brought up by someone else regarding their car speedo acting up.  You may get some additional ideas checking out that exchange.  You will find it in the KAISER FORUM area under SPEEDOMETER PROBLEMS.

It is something that happens to all makes of car from the period as the "lifetime" lubricants used when the cars were new fade out due to age.

Thanks for the info. I'll get it lubed right away. I have been working alot lately, so I didn't get a chance to read alot of the post lately, and didn't notice the one in the Kaiser forum, That was very helpful too. Thanks alot guys..
