Bearings, etc.
« on: April 06, 2009, 09:18:53 PM »
I am redoing the brakes on my '53 Dragon so I need to get some of the drums turned.  I thought I would replce the front wheel bearings and seals while I am at it.  Napa was able to find the correct seals for me, but didn't have the part number for the bearings.  Does anyone happen to know the part number for '53 Kaiser front wheel inner and outer bearings?

Also, I am tuning up the motor and I got spark plugs and cap and rotor form NAPA, but not wires.  Anyone know a part number for these?  Last of all, I have burned out tail lamps.  The part number is GE 1158 and NAPA can get them for me.... if I want to pay $45 for an entire box!  Anyone know how to get ahold of some of these for less money?

Thanks in advance.  More questions to come for sure (and maybe some answers too!).

Rudy lists the bearings as #s 204634 and 204636.  A member listed in the Bulletin offers correct spark plug wires and a seller on eBay under K-F parts offers boxes of the bulbs for about $5.00 PP.

All Timken bearings have a number on them. If you have the bearings out, look at the rim on them (wipe the grease off of course) and find the Timken number. If you have that, any auto parts store should be able to cross-ref them.  My old club handbook doesn't list them with other parts it cross-refs so perhaps they are not so easy to find.  I'm guessing Timken number will be the key.

Good idea to go with numbers on a car. I ordered the Timken numbers for my Aero spindles called for in the manual, one number (inners?) was totally wrong although the races were right. Ended up returning them for numbers actually on the car which was the same as 2 spare spindle sets when I double checked them too. Moral of the story is sometimes even the manual is wrong.
When I replaced rear axle bearings I went with Napa, SKF brand, and was happy to see Timkens wrapped up in the boxes at much better prices than Motion Industries price for Timkens.

All of the above are a available at Autozone and when I bought mine, all were Timken units.

I work at Car Quest and they (like most older units now) don't come up in the system any more...luckily we keep all our Old catalogs. Many only list for Jeep...Kaiser comes up as N/A >:(  It's been said many times, but the parts list manuals are imperative! Funny, but no surprise the #s also carried over to mid-60s AMC

@MarkH...Absolutely! nothing replaces matching the numbers. Pulled the outers and there are the Timkens clear as day!
