53K Fuel Tank Questions

When a Fuel Tank is "Relined" is it possible for the pickup tube in the tank to be damaged or bent??  With 5 gallons in the tank if you go up a 45 degree hill the car runs out of gas.  What should the pickup tube inside the tank look like??
